St Elizabeth's News
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 7 | 9 JUNE 2023

Rebecca Clarke | Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
I hope everyone had a lovely, long weekend despite the weather. It was definitely a very wet start to the week and thankfully the school held up nicely with all the rain!
On Thursday we held our first Cross Country Carnival which was brilliant. The weather was kind to us with only a couple of showers of rain, although, it didn’t disrupt the enthusiasm of our students. To say I was proud of our students is an understatement. The sportsmanship, cheering and positive attitude of our students was inspirational with all of them completing the course! A very big thank you to our amazing Physical Education teacher, Mrs Clarkson, for all her hard work that went into the organisation of this event. Additionally, to my wonderful staff for arriving early to help set up and be actively involved in the morning. Finally, thank you to our parent volunteers for braving the weather and assisting our students around the course. This was another example of the great community that we are lucky to be part of!
Servite Day will be celebrated next Thursday, June 15. This year we will be teaming up with the St Anthony of Padua Parish and the local St Vinnies to take part in the Winter Food Appeal 'Meal in a Can'. Instead of bringing a gold coin donation we will be asking each child a can of soup that will be donated towards this great cause ... the aim is to donate 180 cans of soup to St Vinnies!
Next term, the school will be participating in the Quality Catholic Education School Review and my Principal Review. The Quality Catholic Education School Review (QCESR) provides an opportunity for a panel of educators, external to the school, to affirm, challenge and report on the improvement journey at the school and the Principal’s leadership. The QCESR focuses on the school improvement context and the Principal leadership context, measuring the effectiveness of a Principal’s leadership and engagement with self-review, the impact of a school’s engagement with self-review, and the future directions for the improvement of student outcomes that the school has identified. The QCESR Panel will be visiting our school from Wednesday, August 23 until Friday, August 25, 2023. As part of the process, they will be meeting with the Principal, Leadership Team, a selection of staff, a selection of students, Parish Priest and nominees from the Catholic School Advisory Council and P&F group. At the conclusion of the QCESR Panel visit, a two-part report will be completed. The first section comments on the school improvement processes and strategic direction and will be written and forwarded to school leadership. The second section comments on a Principal’s leadership and professional growth and development. It will be written and forwarded to the Principal and CEWA Executive Director. Thank you in advance for supporting this review.
Finally, please save the date for the St Anthony of Padua Parish, Wanneroo will be celebrating their 91st Annual Festival and Procession which will be held on Sunday, June 18. St Elizabeth’s community will join with St Anthony’s School and the parish to form a celebratory procession starting at 2pm. It would be lovely to have a large sea of red as a strong representation of our school community in the procession.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
God bless
Rebecca Clarke

WA Day - Monday, 5 June
WA Day takes place on the first Monday in June each year. It is a day to celebrate all Western Australians, recognising our Aboriginal history, early European settlers and the many from all over the world who have made, and continue to make, Western Australia their home. It’s a day for each of us to reflect and celebrate all the great things about our people, our lifestyle, our culture and our potential.
What is the history of WA Day?
- Prior to 2012, June 1 was known as Foundation Day, which marked the day when the first European settlers, under the command of Captain James Stirling RN, Lieutenant Governor, arrived from Britain to settle the Swan River Colony.
- In April 2012 Foundation Day was formally changed to WA Day following bipartisan political support in the Western Australian Parliament.
- The legislation emphasised that the new ‘State Day’ was to be inclusive of all people no matter how long they have called themselves Western Australians.

Archbishop’s LifeLink Day Launch 2023
On Wednesday, 7 June Isabella, Ruby, Jessica and Sophia from Year Six were invited to Newman College to represent our school for the official opening of LifeLink Day 2023. LifeLink Day provides a wonderful opportunity for students attending Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Perth to join to show their support for the Church’s social service agencies – agencies which on behalf of us all, reach out to provide practical care and direct assistance to thousands of people in need each year.
Archbishop Timothy Costello SDB reminded us of the many thousands of Western Australian families and individuals each year who depend on our LifeLink agencies being there for them at their time of need.
Thank you to Sue Curtis for leading the students in the, LifeLink Agency Collage activity. All schools’ artworks will be displayed at St Mary’s Cathedral from the 8th August this year.

Irene McCormack Catholic College Visit
On Wednesday, 7 June we were privileged to have Deputy Principals’, Andrew Billingsley and Chelsea Sidaway and the Head of Year Seven, Kieran Parkes from Irene McCormack visit our students in years four to six. The information session focussed on transitions to high school as well as showcasing the academic and extracurricular activities that are on offer at the college such as; Australian Rules Football, Soccer, Basketball, Dance, Cheer Leading, Performing and Visual Arts, Music, intra and inter school Swimming Athletics and Cross Country.
If you are interested in enrolling your child at Irene McCormack or wish for further information please contact the college via their website www.imcc.wa.edu.au
Mid Year Reports
This year CEWA have made some changes to the school reports to align with SCSA requirements. The Semester 1 Report will now be named the Mid-Year Report, showing student progress mid-year against the end of year targets. The Mid-Year Reports will be available to parents on Thursday, 29 June.
Parents will be able to access their child’s report through our Parent SEQTA portal (SEQTA Engage). Those parents who do not have older siblings and who have not previously accessed SEQTA Engage or who are new to the school this year, will receive a ‘Welcome’ email which will give step by step instructions on how to set up your account and login. This email will be sent in the coming week. Please note that this email may end up in your ‘Junk/spam’ folder.
If you have any issues with setting up your Parent Engage account please contact the office.

Sick Students
There has been an increase in students attending school unwell in recent weeks and whilst some are reporting testing positive to COVID, there are also a significant number presenting with other illnesses. It is important that if your child has any symptoms or is feeling unwell, that they stay home, rest and recover. We still have a supply of RAT kits available. If you would like any, please collect these from the office.
Year 6 Project - seeking expertise in cooking Asian dishes
As Term 2 comes to a close, the Year 6 class is looking to celebrate the rich diversity of our school community. We have been studying the continent of Asia this term for Geography and in Week 10 we are looking to combine our learning with a “Taste of Asia” food festival for our class. We will be highlighting the many culinary delights of Asian cuisine. To make this authentic, I am looking for any parents or families that may have expertise in cooking Asian dishes and with time in Week 10 during the day to come in and help us. Whether you are skilled in Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean, Thai or Vietnamese or any other Asian cuisine, your participation would help make a significant difference! If you do have the time or any questions, please send me an email at Chris.Rebeiro@cewa.edu.au
Thank you!
Chris Rebeiro
Year 6 Teacher
