Jordan Journal

September 7, 2015

Congratulations to our TOTY!

Congratulations to Nicole Finley as Jordan's Teacher of the Year!

Constitution Day

It is important to celebrate our foundational document, The Constitution. Please integrate this into your daily instruction during the observance week of September 14 - 17, 2015. Our social studies' team will be able to provide you with some great information and suggestions.

Early Release Information

We will meet during your grade level meeting time on Thursday to provide information on setting up conferences, schedules, etc. Please plan on meeting in your regular meeting space during your planning on Thursday.

FREE Tutoring

First Baptist Church in Lawrenceville is offering free tutoring to our students on Monday nights from 7:00 - 8:00 PM! Mayor Johnson shared this great resource with our school. This would be a great item to share during an early release conference. No need to register, just show up and receive free help! The church is located across from the Lawrenceville Lawn and is in downtown Lawrenceville.

Teachers Needed For Saturday School and Detention

We will have Saturday School twice a month from 8:00 - 12:00 in the media center. We need volunteers to supervise Saturday School (must be a certified). Supervisors will be paid $25/hour (minimum of 4 hours per Saturday). We will begin September 19, 2015. Teachers who do this are expected to instruct and supervise our students. Therefore, we ask that your personal children do not come with you. If you are interested in Saturday School, please email me no later than 8:00 am Friday, September 11, 2015. We will set up a rotation for those that are interested and a schedule will be provided by the beginning of next week. Let me know if you have any questions.

We will have Administrative Detention Mondays from 7:00 - 8:s0 AM in the media center. We need volunteers to supervise the detention (must be a certified). Supervisors will be paid $15/hour. We will begin this on September 21, 2105. If you are interested in supervising detention, please email me no later than 8:00 am Friday, September 11, 2015. We will set up a rotation for those that are interested and a schedule will be provided by the beginning of next week. Let me know if you have any questions.

Religious Activities

Just a quick reminder that any prayer or religious group meetings must be student initiated, organized, and led. We have to be mindful of this as we select songs and programs for our students to perform.

Jordan Live! 9:00 AM

New show time! Mrs. Armstrong is going to work with the JMS News Crew to have the announcements live by 9:00 AM to assist with the transition to Academic 1. Thanks!

The leadership team has begun conducting brief observations. We will provide written feedback and you will receive an email notifying you that the feedback has been shared. The leadership team will be focusing on evidence of implementation of the gradual release model in your classroom. The yellow bookmark that you received during our vertical team meeting on Friday, August 28th will help you identify our "look fors" during our time in your classroom.

eClass Discussion for JMS Team

In preparation for our curriculum meeting on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, please write at least two response to a discussion post on "The First 20 Days". The discussion question will be located on the JMS Training Page and released on September 4, 2015.

Permanent Record Review Update

Please turn in your yellow roster with notes to your grade level leadership team member. We can review the rosters and follow up on SSTs, programming, etc. Thank you for your help in this process!

Please use this link to confirm you have completed the process. Thanks!

eClass C&I Pages

Your next goal is to have at least one assignment for students to complete. This is in addition to the Day 19 & 20 discussions.

Please make sure you have students complete an online assignment by September 11, 2015.

Jordan MS Yearbook

We would love to offer a yearbook to our students! In order to do this, we will need a yearbook sponsor and/or yearbook club. If you are interested in serving in this role, please let me know so I can work with a company to provide this service to our students.

Central Gwinnett Homecoming Parade

We are looking for student groups and/or organizations to participate in this year's Central Gwinnett High School Homecoming Parade. This is a great opportunity to get our school and community involved! Conita Marshall is helping to organize our group. Please let us know if you are interested in having your group participate. The parade will be held on Friday, October 2, 2015 @ 6:00 PM.

Team Recognition Program

Begin thinking about who you would like to recognize in September!

Each month, we will recognize team members who exhibit the pillars of Jordan MS: Community, Leadership, and Excellence! Teams can submit up to three names each month. Please include a brief narrative describing how the team member exemplified community, leadership, or excellence. We will celebrate during our vertical team meetings on Fridays!
