Summer School
Additionally, an email went out to families to gauge interest in their child completing online summer school. Please help us ensure every interested family completes the registration form by posting it to your sites and sending communication to your parents.
Below is a copy of the email and text message that was sent to families earlier today. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
Family Email in English
Dear Park Street Families,
Last night, the MCS Board of Education approved virtual summer learning options for all students currently in grades K-8. You are receiving this email because you have a child in elementary school.
Our priority is to ensure every child is prepared for the next grade level, despite these most unusual circumstances that required us to close our school doors for more than two months. In an effort to support students who may benefit from additional teacher-led online learning, we are offering a free, optional summer learning program to all MCS students.
The program will include the following elements:
- Virtual learning opportunities Monday-Thursday (June 1-July 2, 2020)
- Expectation that students will engage with their teacher up to six hours per week
- Three hours per week: virtual instruction in real-time (one hour per day, three days per week; online sessions with the teacher to be scheduled at set times each week).
- Three hours per week: additional support and digital learning through Schoology and related videos and activities (student and family can complete this learning at their discretion each week; no set, scheduled times).
- Low student-teacher ratios (note – we cannot guarantee your child will have their current MCS teacher).
In order for MCS to establish classes and coordinate resources, all students are required to register in order to participate in summer learning. Please complete this registration form for K-5 summer learning by Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. If you prefer to complete the registration form by phone, please call Shunte Blue (678-695-7254) for assistance in English or Dora Blanco (470-473-2522) for assistance in Spanish. Please contact Karen Hynninen at khynninen@marietta-city.k12.ga.us with any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Principal McIntire

Reminder from Ms. Vogt
Hello Park Street Family!
Some of you may remember this from the beginning of this year, but if not, here it goes! Crayola has a recycling program called ColorCycle where they take any brand of markers, dry erase markers, and highlighters and recycle/repurpose them FOR FREE! All we have to do is collect the markers! I have already placed boxes in the break room in the main building and the Panther Den in the back for you to place your unwanted markers as you clean/pack up your rooms over the next few weeks. As of right now, the program is temporarily on pause due to the Coronavirus, but I will still be collecting the markers and will send them to Crayola when they are back up and running. So, instead of throwing them away, please place them in the cardboard boxes in the Panther Den and the Teacher’s Lounge in the front building (I will be putting out more boxes when I get to school on Monday). I just need any and all plastic markers, dry erase, and highlighters (but please NO CRAYONS OR COLORED PENCILS) placed in the boxes, then I will do the rest! Thank you for your help in saving the planet, one marker at a time :)
Learning Tip from Ms. V

Our new playground and furniture
We were not able to keep the second storage cabinet, but there is still a chance we can add this or other items back in at a later date.
We selected colors for our new playground. Below are renderings of what the playground will look like. The playground still needs to be approved, but I wanted to share what will be proposed.
Thank you to the design team for all of your hard work!
