Literacy Update For The Week
WIT AND WISDOM
All grade levels have begun to introduce and explore our new literacy series, WIT AND WISDOM. Wit and Wisdom concentrates on the importance of knowledge and gaining that knowledge through the reading and deep understanding of a variety of literature. Students will be reading authentic whole texts instead of short excerpts compiled in an anthology.
Smartwatch/Cell Phone Reminder
Please note, cell phones should be in silent mode or turned off and stored in bookbags throughout the day. Smartwatches should not be used to make calls, send messages, or take photos/videos during the school day. Also, note the school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal electronic devices. Our school team will be reminding our students of these expectations regarding personal devices.
We thank all of our families for their continued support and cooperation in limiting disruptions to the classroom.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Cultural Highlights Of The Week
Hispanic Heritage Month- September 15- October 15
Book Feature-
Alma and How She Got Her Name is a 2018 children's picture book by Juana Martinez-Neal. Alma, whose full name is Alma Sofia Esperanza José Pura Candela, thinks she has too many names and so she asks her dad about them. He explains the various people she was named to honor. The book was spurred by Martinez-Neal's Peruvian immigrant experience and the birth of her children. The book was well reviewed and a recipient of a 2019 Caldecott Honor for its illustrations. The graphite and colored pencil illustrations feature only a few colors, including blue and pink. Martinez-Neal hoped to evoke the feel of a photo album, in keeping with the book's theme of family.
