Camas Ridge Counseling Corner
November 25, 2020
You are all appreciated!
Thank you for your support and caring. I hope you all enjoy the next few days with family and gratitude.
Being With. . .
Using distraction, redirection, rational logic, verbal discussion, and time-outs do not help a child learn about their emotions, what their emotions feel like, or how to work through the emotion. Sitting with and being with someone when they experience big emotions is difficult, challenging, and uncomfortable.
Sitting with and being with our child when they experience big emotions lets them know we can handle them, we still love and care about them, and we will be there when they need us.
While it is very challenging to be with someone during challenging emotions, it gets easier when we focus on controlling our own reaction and responses. This becomes easier with our own deep breathing and sending of positive thoughts and well-wishes to our child.
