West Genesee Music Education Program Receives National Recognition--Again!
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has announced the results of its 22nd annual “Best Communities for Music Education” (BCME) survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment and support of music education in schools.
This is the thirteenth consecutive year, sixteenth time overall, that West Genesee has been recognized for this honor.
Thank you to the following music teachers responsible for this impressive program: Anthony Alvaro, Christine Astafan, Tracy Berner, Gregory Borsz, Leah Causer, Tracy Cheney, Marcia DeMartini, Kevin Dimmel, Deanna Fitzpatrick, Martha Grener, Christy Knowlton, Erin McConnell, William Mercer, Margret Mercer, Andrew Perry, Kristen Reichert, Andrea Scerbo, Donald Schuessler, Rosemarie Speich, Michael Stachnik, and Kathryn Ta.
Camillus Optimist Speech Winners Share Speeches on “Healing the World With Optimism”
On March 24, four students from West Genesee High School gave speeches around the theme, “Healing the World With Optimism” to members of the Camillus Optimist Club.
The Optimists chose Logan Battaglia (1st) and Alexcis Rydelek (2nd) to represent them at the next level of the 2021 Oratorical Contest that will be held in April.
Janaya Jones and Lia Rice are runners up, in no particular order.
English teacher Suzanne Ostrander coordinated the competition for the students from the high school which was conducted via zoom. Click here to view the zoom recording of the oratorical contest.
Additional Days Off Because of Snow (or rather lack of....)
Superintendent David C. Bills announced at the Board of Education meeting this week that if we have no additional emergency closing days, our "give back" days will be Friday, May 28 and Tuesday, June 1.
If we have an emergency closing between now and then, June 1 will be reinstated as a regular school day, followed by May 28 if we have a second emergency closing.

2021 Summer Music is Coming!
The music camp opportunities that West Genesee will be offering this summer has been announced. (More information and a registration form will be available on the website in the near future.) Please realize the time of camps, grade levels, and cost of all camps are all projected with the best current information. The dates are firm. The actual final times, grades and cost will be on the enrollment forms later this year.
Spring Sports Registration Opens
The West Genesee "Spring" registration is now open on FamilyID for Baseball, Boys/Girls Lacrosse, Softball, Boys/Girls Track, Girls Golf, Boys Tennis, Wrestling! Click here to register.
Reminder: The seasons dates include the following sports:
- Fall 2 (March 8, 2021 thru April 24, 2021) – Football, Volleyball, Cheer, Girls Swim/Dive
- Spring (April 19, 2021 thru June 12, 2021) – Baseball, Boys/Girls Lacrosse, Softball, Boys/Girls Track, Girls Golf, Boys Tennis, Wrestling

Kindergarten Registration Continues through April
Kindergarten Registration for the 2021-2022 school year opened virtually on December 1, 2020 and has been extended until April 30, 2021. This will allow our families to register their children from the comfort of their home or office. Please click here to start the Virtual Registration process. This will schedule a telemeeting with you.
When registering, parents should be prepared to upload the following:
- proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)
- proof of immunizations
- proof of age
A physical examination is also required and a dental certificate is requested for entry into kindergarten. These examinations should be done up to one year prior to the first day of school. Children who enter kindergarten this fall must be five years of age on or before December 1, 2021.

Update: Free Breakfast and Lunch
The USDA has granted ALL students in the United States FREE breakfast and lunch for this entire school year due to the COVID pandemic. Orders can be placed at: https://westgenesee.nutrislice.com/menu/.
