Now that our students have learned about the essential Skills for Learning, they will begin to learn about Empathy during their Steps to Strong in Every Way time! Students will be learning about empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.
The grade levels’ link below will take you to a page called Home Links. Some Steps to SIEW lessons have fun activities for you and your child to complete together! They are a great way for you to understand what your child is learning and for your child to show you what he or she knows!
Boomer is coming to Stonegate!
To wrap up the end of the bullying prevention lessons, Boomer, the official mascot of the Indiana Pacers, will be coming to Stonegate on Wednesday, October 10th for an Anti-Bully dunk show/convocation! Students are encouraged to wear Pacers attire or blue and gold on this day.
The Stonegate Spotlight
Fourth Grade
Fourth grade has been immersed in learning over the last month! We took our two day trip to Camp Tecumseh where we spent our days in the Pioneer Heritage village of 1811. In class we have been learning about the environmental factors that impact species through experimentation and observation of different insects. Students have been learning reading strategies that ‘Good Readers’ use and implementing them in their own reading. We are learning how to create goals, track our progress, and communicate our successes and needs. It’s exciting to see students are developing 21st Century skills!
JAT Update
We had a beautiful day for Jog-A-Thon on Friday, September 28th! Thank you to all who came out to support our students and help with the big event! We couldn’t do it without you! The students jogged their hearts out - many of them running 5-6 miles and some even more! Each lap was 1/4 mile if you want to figure out your child’s mileage. I’m sure they slept well that night!
Jog-A-Thon is our biggest fundraiser of the year. The money raised will support math and literacy materials, technology, enrichment grants, field trips, and special projects for each grade. Our goal is to raise $20,000. To do that, we are challenging each student to raise $50 in donations. 100% of the donations collected by Stonegate students will directly impact our school. We have extended the deadline for return of donations and pledge forms to Friday, October 12th. Please have all donations and forms in before you leave for Fall Break! To donate online, https://www.schoolpay.com/pay/for/-Jogathon-Sponsorship/IdLhZ
This year, we are raffling off a zoo stuffed animal in each class. Every student who participates in Jog-A-Thon gets one raffle ticket. They get 2 tickets if they bring in at least $50 in donations! We will raffle off the stuffed animals after Fall Break! Plus, the class in each grade with the highest participation percentage gets to choose their own Spirit Day. We will have a preschool winner and a winner for each grade. And the one class in the whole school who raises the most $ gets to “cream” their teacher, Mrs. Largent and Mrs. Farley!

BACKGROUND CHECK INFORMATION
We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities.
Examples include:

Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee* for the full background check which will expire after 5 years. The link to apply for the full background check can be accessed on the Volunteers/BRAVO link on the ZCS main webpage. For more information, contact the Volunteer/BRAVO Coordinator.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.
Examples Include:

We ask that all visitors schedule an appointment to meet with teachers, counselors, administrators and all other staff members so that we may best serve everyone. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
*ZCS thanks all volunteers for generous support of our youth and schools. Thank you, too, for supporting assurance of student and staff safety by completing and paying for a volunteer background check.
Did You Know?
ZCS, like other public schools, has a no-idling policy for vehicles on campus. The purpose of the policy is to limit vehicle emissions that might be brought into the schools and adversely impact the health of our students and staff. If you are stopped on campus for more than 5 minutes, please remember to turn off your engine. We thank you for abiding by this policy to help reduce the exposure to these emissions.
