Fanning Academy of Science and Technology
Goodbye from Mrs. Stevens
It has been a pleasure being the principal at Fanning Academy. As I reminisce through my years at Fanning, it has been a bittersweet end but I'm grateful to have seen students, families and my incredible teachers and staff last week. I'm thankful for the years I've been able to build relationships and add to the already positive culture at Fanning. I will miss you all and wishing the best for all our students, staff and families!
With Love,
Mrs. Stevens

iReady Summer Challenge
Dear Families,
Thank you for all of your continued support. We understand that this has been an unprecedented year and remain committed to continuing student learning through the summer. As a result, we proudly announce and invite your child to participate in our school’s iReady Summer Challenge!
iReady is a computer-based program that your child can work on from any computer or iPad (iOS 10 or higher) with internet access. Directions on how to access iReady can be found below:
Students will continue to iReady via the Clever portal. Once students login, they should do the following:
Select either Reading or Math as a subject by clicking on the respective button.
iReady will be available to students up until July 31, 2020. After this date, the system will not be available until school starts.
You can help support your child’s learning by:
Asking questions about each iReady lesson:
What is one thing you learned in your lesson?
What was one thing you thought was difficult?
What is a new word you learned in your lesson?
Checking your child’s progress by clicking on the “My Progress” icon and using what you see to ask your child the following questions:
What do you notice when you look at this data?
What is something you feel is going really well?
What areas are challenging you?
We ask that students keep track of the lessons they pass with 80% or higher on the Reading and Math logs that are shared and recommend at least one Math and one Reading lesson per week. Please note that a student my re-take a lesson as many times as they want to reach their 80% score or higher.
STUDENT INCENTIVES:
For every two iReady lessons passed at 80% or higher, your child will receive one Cougarrific Ticket. This means your child could start the year off with a collection of rewards that could lead to bigger rewards once school starts!
All student participants will also have their name entered into a raffle for an additional prize!
TECHNICAL SUPPORT:

Queridas familias,
Para preguntas basadas en el programa iReady: Kris Ono at kono@bousd.us and Shari Bithell at sbithell@bousd.us

iReady at Home - Guide for Families
Hello BOUSD Elementary Families,
As part of the BOUSD elementary instructional program, we use i-Ready to help your student access content in reading and mathematics in grades K-6. i-Ready is an online program that will help your child’s teacher(s) determine your child’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your child exactly where they are and provides data to increase your child’s learning gains. The i-Ready program consists of two parts: Diagnostics (assessments) and Instruction.
Teachers will begin to administer the iReady diagnostic assessments, for grades 3rd through 6th, beginning Tuesday, May 12, 2020 through the end of the school year.
We are offering a parent webinar on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 6:00 pm. to help answer your questions about the iReady diagnostic assessments. Please join us to learn more about i-Ready if you are available.

How can I help my child get the most out of i-Ready?
Talk with your child about how using i-Ready at home will help him/her prepare for class work. (It will also show teachers where he/she is doing well and which topics need more review.)
Encourage your child to use the tools provided during lessons and to use scrap paper to work out math problems.
Help your child identify and become familiar with the different parts of the student home page (“My Assignments”, “My Stuff”, “My Progress”).
Encourage your child to take each lesson and question seriously. Emphasize “thinking before clicking”. (Just clicking through will not give teachers an accurate report of what your child knows and is able to do.
Discuss your child’s results by looking at the “My Progress” box with him/her.
Contact your child’s teacher about how often your child should practice at home, or with any other questions about i-Ready.
If you have any questions, please contact Terii Ault, Instructional Coach or Kerrie Torres, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
Sincerely,
Brea Olinda Unified School District
