Message from Dr. Rios:
Just moments ago, just before sending this newsletter to you, we learned that the Missouri Governor announced that all Missouri schools would remain closed for the remainder of the academic school year. I know this brings many questions about many events, programs, and general tasks that typically happen during April and May. As soon as possible, I will be sure to share more specifics on many of these topics as soon as plans are finalized. This is definitely not the news that we had hoped for, but we will make every effort to bring a positive closure to the 19-20 school year.
Parents, we thank you for your endless efforts to teach and support your student(s) with their daily learning experiences. We appreciate the assistance with technology and learning tasks that continue the quality learning and engagement in their education. We hope that as our weeks of distance learning have continued that routines are becoming more familiar and comfortable.
We want you to know that we are here to support you with your efforts. Our teachers and all support staff remain available to you, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. We have created a survey for us to check in with all of our families. Please click on the link below to help us know how things are going from your perspective and/or let us know what you need at this time. We are here to support both parents and students to achieve learning while also taking care of each other.

Are your kids going crazy? Are you feeling stressed?
Tips for Success During Distance Learning:
1. Get on a schedule or routine.
- Human brains crave predictability. It feels safe when we know what is going to happen next.
- Even if it is a ‘loose’ routine, children will typically feel calmer if they know what happens next.
- Visuals can help students see what is next and prepare their brains. Make a list or have a simple picture of each thing on the schedule.
- Kids will know when they are in that place they will be learning.
- If the location changes, note that in the schedule, for example, "Today we will do math outside!"
- When we feel success our brains release dopamine, serotonin and endorphins. Our bodies want more of that, which makes it more likely we will repeat the behavior.
- If your student is better at Math, start with math and do more math.
- Scale back other activities at first until they feel successful then gradually add in more difficult items.
will help during this stressful time to change how you thing about it.
- Pivot from – I am losing my mind TO I am going to step away and take deep breaths
- Pivot from – This is impossible! TO I need more information on this.
- Above ALL ELSE safety and connection come first. Take a break. Have fun. Laugh with your kids.
- Your relationship is more important than getting an assignment completed.
