Laurelton-Pardee News

January 29, 2016

Dear LP Families:

Tonight is the school play! We had a performance at school yesterday, which was fantastic. I'm so proud of our entire production of about 50 kids. The show has taken a village to produce. Under the direction of Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Herforth, they have united our community with support in building the set, directing the chorus, and crafting costumes. We hope you can come tonight!

We will be selling carnations at the play, if you wish to buy one for your little star of the show! Please remember, too, there is a $1.00 admission charge to the play with children under five free.

Student performers are being dropped off at 6:00, but the doors to the cafeteria will open at 6:15. See you then!

Changes for the 2016 Grades 3-8 Math and ELA State Exams

The NYS Education Department informed us this week that this year's state tests will look a little different. While we knew the tests were being created by a different company (Questar), we learned a few other differences for the year.

The main changes:

1. Greater involvement of educators in the test development process.

2. Decrease in the number of test questions

3. A shift to untimed testing

School Play - TONIGHT!

We are hoping for a GREAT turn-out at our first school-wide play in many years. The play will be on January 29 at 7:00 in our cafeteria. We hope you'll consider coming and bringing your families. There is a small admission fee to cover the cost of props and scenery. Many thanks to Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Herforth for leading this charge, but they have enlisted the talents and time of many of their colleagues. This is sure to be a terrific event!

Thing about Laurelton-Pardee - The staff and faculty

You might be surprised to know that got married where I worked to a man I officially met there.

I would like to meet Barack Obama

If I could go anywhere, I would go to Great Britain.

My favorite sports team is the Red Wings.

I keep healthy by doing PT exercises.

Last summer I did household projects and celebrated Christmas!

When I am not at Laurelton-Pardee I enjoy entertaining, trips with my husband and crafts.

Right now I am reading Booky Wook by Russell Brand.

If I had a magic wand I would change the format of NYS ELA test.
