the mean absolute deviation and box and whisker plots
What is the mean absolute deviation
The mean absolute deviation of a set of data is the average distance between each data value and the mean. This is how you find the mean absolute deviation...
- Find the mean of the data set 1,3,5,7,4,2,13 mean= 5
- Find the difference of each number from the mean 4,2,0,2,1,3,8 _____
- Find the mean of the new set of data 4,2,0,2,1,3,8 mean=2.85714
- That is the mean absolute deviation _____
- mean absolute deviation=2.85714
A box plot
A box plot is a box with "whiskers" sticking out. The line in the middle of the box is the median, the starting of the box is the lower quartile, the ending of the box is the upper quartile. The end of the whisker on the left side is the smallest number in the data set, the end of the whisker on the right is is the largest value. The lower quartile subtracted by the upper quartile is the interquartile range.
