Sporting Competitions

Well done to all those children who have represented our school in various sporting competitions recently. We have been very proud of the way that they represented out school. The swimming team did well at the local gala this week, coming in third place but winning lots of races during the event.

The Greatest Animal of All

This week, many of our KS2 children attended a MAT science sharing event on “The Greatest Animal of All”. This took place at the new Education Exchange conference centre in Knottingley, and was attended by important science experts as well as the author of the book we have been reading, Penny Worms.

As you know, we have been studying the honey bee and our children presented their case to others and displayed their work. We were delighted that they were voted to be the winners of the event!

We were presented with a cheque for £100 that we will donate to the Bee Conservation Trust. Children put their case forward brilliantly and we are very proud of them. You can see more, and hear an interview on BBC Radio Leeds, on our social media.

Thank you!

A special thank you to Fields of Sherburn for their kind donation of plants and compost for use in our outdoor area.

KS2 Cycling Event

Next Friday we have a cycling event in school. This will give our children opportunities to learn about cycling awareness. The activities will take place in school and not on the public highways. Children should wear PE kit (they can come dressed in this in the morning) so that they are comfortable when participating.

Although the weather is due to get a little cooler next week, we are (hopefully!) in the season when it is going to be warm and sunny. Please ensure that your child has suncream on before coming to school each day, and has a hat to wear outside.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Your child has received a free book about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee today. This has been supplied by the government, and contains lots of interesting facts about our Queen.

FOSS Summer Fair

Don't forget the FOSS Summer Fair on Friday 15th July. Please bring any donations for the raffle/ tombola into the school office.

We will be asking for donations of cakes nearer the time. Thank you!

School Calendar - keep up to date!

Please remember to keep checking the calendar regularly, as there will be a lot happening in school. We are planning to hold a production for parents, done by KS2 children, there will be a transition day for new classes, an end of year service in church, and other events happening. Dates will be circulated in the news, but the calendar is always the best source of advance notice. This is available on the bottom of each Friday newsletter and on our website.

School Lunches

Please see the Summer 2022 Lunch menu below. Next week we will be on Week 2 of lunches.

On Tuesday we have our Special Summer Mini Food Festival menu. We have then swapped the Pizza to the Wednesday instead of Tuesday.

Children can decide daily whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch.

Please ensure you discuss the menu each day with your child so they can decide what they would like to order. Once they know their choices, they will choose this each morning with their teacher during registration.

Each day there are 4 choices, either the hot dinner, hot vegetarian option, jacket potato with a choice of toppings or a sandwich. The sandwich and jacket potato always come with a selection of vegetables/salad on the side and have the full pudding choice for that day.

Packed Lunches - if you are sending grapes in your child's packed lunch, can you please ensure that these are cut in half.

Application for Pupil Absence Form

This form should be completed by the parent/carer and returned to the school as far in advance as possible and preferably preferably with sufficient notice before the first intended day of absence.
