Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update
THOUGHTS and THANK YOUS
This week's praise goes to three incredible third grade students in Mrs. Gaffney's class. About two months ago, Beatrix Johnson, Michelle Crisobal, and Emilly (with two Ls) Damascena came to visit me with an idea that they had to make afternoon announcements more inclusive. While we started having a teacher do afternoon announcements in English and Portuguese this year, these young scholars thought it would be helpful to include Spanish, too. They also volunteered to do the announcements since we didn't have any Spanish speaking staff free in the afternoon. Of course, we jumped at the chance to make this happen. We starting off with a tryout period of Fridays. It was such a success that now Beatrix, Michelle, and Emilly do the announcements in three language every single day! I am so proud that Farley's school culture empowers students to act and gives them a voice. We believe in our students’ potential and their very real capacity to share power with adults. Below is a picture of the students holding the phone that we use for announcements.
Have a great weekend! Stay cool!

We will be having a Memorial Day Celebration assembly at Farley School on Friday, May 27th at 9:20AM. Please save the date because you are invited to this outdoor presentation!
More information can be found on the Memorial Day Flyer here. English, Portuguese, and Spanish fliers are all linked on the same document. Hard copies are being sent home this week. The second page (backside) of this flyer contains information about our honored guests. If you or a close relative to your child is a veteran, serviceman or woman, or a member of the armed forces, we would love for you/him/her to come to the assembly and be honored for the service to our country. Please fill out the form or email me directly with the same information at clstrauss@hudson.k12.ma.us.
Lastly, we have already started to work on patriotic music in music class, so please share this link with your child(ren) at home so they can continue to practice for the celebration.
Thank you!

A MESSAGE FROM SEPAC
SEPAC Hudson Making A Difference Award - There are many wonderful people that work for HPS that regularly assist our children receiving Special Education with their needs, and this past year has continued to have its challenges as we work through pandemic related concerns. We would like to award a few of those people with the SEPAC Hudson Making A Difference Award at the HPS District Awards night scheduled for 6pm on June 9th at Quinn Middle School. Last year, we had an overwhelming response from families nominating staff members for going above and beyond for our students. We hope to see that continue. All nominees will receive a certificate of recognition.
If you know of, or your child(ren) have mentioned a staff member that has stood out to them this year in helping them overcome obstacles or challenges please let us know a little bit about this person and how they have positively impacted your child. The employees selected do not need to be special education staff, but should stand out in helping students receiving Special Education. Nominations can be sent to SEPACHUDSON@GMAIL.COM no later than Wednesday May 20th. The nomination should include name, school and a brief explanation. Your child's information/experience will be kept anonymous. The winners will be selected by the SEPAC Hudson Board.
We look forward to hearing about all of the wonderful staff members who have made a difference for students!
