PFES - Board Report
September 16, 2022
Bus Safety
Annually, bus drivers are required to complete a bus evacuation drill. As a result of John, Kacey, and I meeting with the drivers to review the start of the year, we decided to assist the process by creating an bus evacuation Teach To video to be used prior to the drill as a training experience for the kids. Further, under Mr. Cronin's leadership, we are going to include the Park Falls Police Department and Ashland County Sheriff as observers when we complete the evacuation drill.
Thank You
Our local retired educators association treated teachers on the first day with a boost of energy with a sweet treat!
Helping Our Students
Reading Corp Update
Jess Blue, PFES Title One teacher, is the coordinator for our building. She is doing an excellent job with this added responsibility.
Successful Start
The bus arrival, car line drop off, and pick up, are all running consistent with previous years. The car line takes less than 15 minutes.
Teachers are completing fall universal screenings with Aimsweb, Fountas and Pinnell, and b.e.s.t. (the b.e.s.t. screening is scheduled for Oct.)
- Aimsweb®Plus screens and monitors the reading and math skills of students. AimswebPlus assessments are aligned to State standards and assist teachers in identifying students learning gaps quickly, identify at-risk students, and assess individual and classroom growth. This assessment is done in fall, winter, and spring. You are familiar with the "tree report" which comes from AimsWeb data.
- Fountas and Pinnell help teachers determine individual students reading levels. That information is used to select readings that are the appropriate difficulty level for each student.
- The b.e.s.t. assessment measures internal and external behaviors that are linked with school success. The system provides research-based interventions that teachers use to help the child improve in identified areas.
5th Grade Field Trip
Perfect!
New Experience
Mr. Bill Harris
Open House
Teachers reported around 90% of the PFES parents attended the open house on Monday, 8/22. This attendance was better than last year and more consistent with pre-covid percentages!
Delta Dental Grant Application
One of our PTO members, Amy Kaehn, referred me to our Dental Insurance provider, Delta Dental, as a possible grant source for a project. I wrote and received a $1000.00 grant to bolster the food backpack program run by the Lord's Pantry organization. It is an excellent resource for family support.
