A Peek At The Week

I hope everyone had a great vacation. The children were excited to share all the "fun" things they did during the week. Now that we are back we have been busy with reading, writing, math and science. In "Fundations" we started unit #4 and a letter went home on Wednesday explaining what the students will be leaning in this unit Also in this trimester the children will be learning how to read and spell words with consonant digraphs (sh, ch, wh, th, and ck). In math we will introduce 3-D shapes, continue with decomposing numbers, place value using base 10 blocks, double 10-frames, addition and subtraction facts to 5, and addition and subtraction word problems.

We began the new science unit which includes learning about habitats and now we will have a very special habitat in our classroom. The students do not know what will be living in this habitat so as scientists they will do research which will include inquiry, predictions, and observations. Stay tuned for ongoing information about our scientific investigation.

Looking Ahead

On Tuesday, May 10th, we will be having an Author’s Celebration. We would like to take this opportunity to share our Penguin books with family and friends from 10:15-11:00 in room 130. Please let me know if you are able to attend.

Field Trip News:

Our field trip this year will be to Save the Bay Newport Aquarium on Wednesday, May 25th. The permission slip and chaperone forms went home on Wednesday . If you would like to be a chaperone you MUST have a BCI form completed and on file with the West Warwick School Department. We are only able to take 4 chaperones, therefore, if we get more volunteers than we are able to take, we will have to put names into a hat and only those chosen will be able to go with us. I wish we could take everyone who would like to come but we are traveling with another kindergarten class so our bus space is limited and Save the Bay also limits the number of chaperones. As soon as I get all the volunteer forms, I will contact chaperones. The permission forms for Save the Bay for the students will go home next week.

Our end of the year graduation celebration will be on Thursday, June 9th, in the cafeteria. If you have any questions please do not contact the office concerning the graduation because each class will be having their graduation on a different day so please contact me directly. Students will come to school until Monday, June 20th.

Although it seems that June 9th is many days away, it will be here before we know it. We are preparing for graduation learning songs, dances and special surprises. We will be working on several projects for this celebration. At this time I am asking that each child bring in a NEW white short sleeve Tee shirt that they will wear for our graduation celebration. The children will be decorating these shirts and they will be worn over their clothing, therefore, the shirts should be big enough (one size larger than they would usually wear) so your child will be comfortable. (Not over-sized or an adult size please). If you get the Sunday paper, many times AC Moore or Michaels have a coupon or special on white Tee shirts which make the price reasonable. If you are unable to purchase a shirt, please let me know.
