HG Students Attend Leadership Conference
Career tech students attended the Career Tech Joint Leadership Development Conference in Birmingham on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hazel Green was represented by 12 NJROTC cadets and 15 other CTE students from HOSA, DECA and FBLA. Our students were able to participate in leadership workshops and interactive activities and visit with nearly 100 state and national industries, in an effort to prepare them for career and college success.

Choral Students Audition for State
Good luck to Haley Hicks, John Phillips, Wendell Seals and Sarah Worthington! They will be auditioning for the Alabama All-State Choir tomorrow. These students were selected by Mrs. Flynn and have been preparing since September. We know they will do great!
Learning Community Gets Cooking
Winter Coat Drive
First Priority will be doing a winter coat drive for the less fortunate until Christmas Break. Please bring coats, hats, gloves and scarves to Ms. Glenn’s office before or after school.
HGHS Basketball Cheer Clinic
HGHS Basketball cheerleaders are hosting a cheer clinic on Saturday, January 10, 2015
from noon to 4:00pm at the Hazel Green High School Gym. All elementary and middle school girls are invited to attend! The clinic will focus on cheerleading technique and teach cheers. Best of all, the girls will perform with the basketball cheerleaders at the home game, Friday, January 16 at 6:00pm! There is a $20 registration fee, which includes a t-shirt.

Christmas Service Hour Opportunity
Volunteer and have fun! (You can even ask a friend to sign up with you.) Volunteers are needed for KRIS KRINGLE'S CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS on DECEMBER 5th and/or 6th. Volunteers are needed to help children make tradition crafts. This includes stringing popcorn, icing cookies and designing hole punch ornaments. Plan to join us from 4:30-9:00 in the cabins of the Historic Park. This is a wonderful way to celebrate the season and earn those required volunteer hours. Wear Purple Day - November is National Premature Awareness Month, and Tuesday November 25th is National Wear Purple Day for March of Dimes. DECA/ FBLA members need to wear something purple. There will be a group picture taken at the meetings.
Iron Bowl Challenge - Support your favorite team and raise money for the HGHS Library! Drop any change or folding money or checks to the bank of your choice. The team that raises the most money gets their fight song played over the intercom at the beginning of each class period! All contributions go to the high school library for books and equipment. You can also donate with one of our community partners, Gentle Touch Salon and Hazel Green Dental. We welcome your support, and may the best fans win! ROLL TIDE! WAR EAGLE!
Winter Clothing Drive - The Math team is collecting warm winter clothing for the less fortunate. You can find drop off boxes in the attendance office and Coach Morrow's classroom.
Robotics Club Fundraisers - The Robotics Club will be selling HEXBugs: Microrobots starting on Thursday, October 30th. Prices are $5.00 and $8.00. See a robotics student to purchase. They are also selling Gourmet Popcorn. Orders will be back in time for Christmas Break. Deadline to order is Thanksgiving Break.

Pizza Hut in Meridianville has designated the first Tuesday of every month as Meridianville Eagles Boys Basketball Night. Pizza Hut will donate 10% of all earnings from 4:00pm-9:00pm for anyone who mentions MVMS Boys Basketball when ordering - dine-in, carryout, or delivery!

National Society of Black Engineers High School Essay Contest - The paper must address the topic of cyber security. With cyber threats in a state of rapid and continuous evolution, keeping pace in cyber security strategy and operation has become a major challenge. What is the significance or impact of cyber security in our daily lives? Authors of the top two essays will receive a monetary award in the amount of $150. Deadline is January 12, 2015. National Career Development Association 49th Annual Poetry & Poster Contest - All entries must be submitted to the State Coordinator, Lynn Boyd at Troy University Montgomery Campus, College of Education, P.O. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week - Applicants must be a high school senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and display a history of athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as community/civic involvement. All weekly winners are invited to a banquet held in their honor in May, and two students are selected as Athletes of the Year. The two Athletes of the Year each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Trojan Daily Tips - All the newest information will be at the top, followed by our Athletic Schedules, Current Announcements, Senior Information and Permananent Announcements. Information from previous newsletters remains posted in Current Announcements until it expires. I welcome parents to send scores, pictures and updates from any Hazel Green sports or activities. We can't brag about it if we don't know about it. Scholarship and college visit information will only be posted once, and then it can be found on separate webpages for General Scholarships, College and University Scholarships, and School Visits and Special Programs.
Revision to Pre-Approved Absence Policy- Students requesting pre-approved, excused absences will need to turn the form in to Mrs. Sharp at least 20 days before the planned absence. Forms can be found on the school website.
Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors during school. First Priority/FCS meets every Tuesday morning at 8:00 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.
Parenting Assistance Line: PAL is a service where anyone can call a toll free number 1-866-962-3030 and receive useful, practical information and assistance with developmental and parenting questions and concerns. Available 8:00am – 8:00pm (central time) Monday – Friday.
Recycle: Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Reward Cards: Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
Loyalty Reward Tags: (Hazel Green Pharmacy Loyalty Key Tag Program) Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your loyalty key tag when you visit Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you purchase a Prescription/Gift/OTC have them swipe your tag. HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a loyalty key tag. Just stop by the main office to pick one up.
