Principal Allen's Weekly Newsletter
December 2 , 2019
Dear Spicewood Elementary Parents & Community Members,
Welcome Back! I hope your break was relaxing and spent with family and friends! On behalf of Spicewood faculty and staff, I would like to thank you for the delicious pies, cakes, and cookies provided for teachers!! Your generosity allowed us to take a sweet desert home to enjoy with our families over the break!
I would like to remind you that the Inquiry Lab is open after school on specific dates from 3:00pm-4:00pm. We can accommodate up to 20 families per date so please be sure to reserve you spot ahead of time using this link: Spicewood Open Inquiry Lab
I hope you have a wonderful week.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Allen

CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Coffee with the Principal
Please feel free to join me for coffee and conversation on Monday, Dec 9. We will be discussing our campus initiatives and any questions or concerns you may have. I look forward to seeing you!
World of Holidays Celebration
December is filled with many multicultural celebrations. In connection to students' unit of inquiry Who We Are (an exploration of cultural beliefs and values), we would like to display our different celebrations in the entryway to our school. If you are interested in helping to transform our entryway into a space that shows who we are as a community, please fill out the World of Holidays Celebration form. We would love your help!
We Have Added a Half Time Counselor!
As the number of students enrolled increased, we found ourselves in desperate need of an additional counselor. Fortunately the district created a half time counselor position for Spicewood and we were were able to hire Jenna Aleya. Ms. Aleya is a certified school counselor and previously served as an interim elementary school counselor in Austin ISD. Prior to serving as interim counselor, she was a self-contained elementary special education teacher working with students with Emotional Behavioral Disabilities. Ms. Aleya will be at Spicewood on Tuesdays & Thursdays (7:20AM - 3:25PM) and Fridays (7:20AM -11:30AM). We are excited to have her join the Spicewood family and happy that she will be able to collaborate with Mrs. Kentopp to support our students.
Announcements from the PTA
Spelling Bee Registration
The last day to register for the Spicewood Spelling Bee is today, Dec 2, at 6 PM. For more information, please visit the Spicewood PTA Spelling Bee website.
STEAM Day Volunteers Needed
We will be hosting our PTA sponsored event, STEAM Day, on Friday, March 6th. This unique day gives our students opportunity to explore the areas of STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math with hands on activities, career exploration and outside vendor presentations. Our students will be thinkers, risk takers and open-minded as they solve engineering design challenges, code drones to fly, and take a trip to the stars with our pop up planetarium, BUT we need your help to make this day a success!!
If you work or have experience in any of those fields - please sign up to share some of your expertise with our students! https://forms.gle/PUKLhcnV6XhfBVst7
We thank you in advance for your time and support for this great program.
