Terms to know:
Psychoactive Drugs- chemical substance that alters pain, anxiety, cognition and perception
Stimulants- psychoactive drugs that induce temporary movements in mental or physical functions
Depressants-drug that slows the activity of the nervous system
Opiates-substances that act on the nervous system in a similar way to morphine and codeine
Psychedelic Drugs- psychoactive drug whose primary action is to alter cognition and perception, typically by serotonin receptors
Tolerance- allowable amount of variation of a specified quantity
Withdrawal- physical and mental symptoms that occur after stopping or reducing intake of a drug
Addiction- state characterized by compulsive engagement stimuli, despite consequences. thought as a disease
Dependence- relying on being controlled by someone or something else
