A Note from Mrs. Johansen

Dear Sandburg Families,

I'm still smiling after all the fun we had yesterday afternoon at school! We completed our second SEL day with outdoor team building! Students and staff competed in musical chairs and rope pull. The students who competed were chosen randomly because they had earned Wildcat Paws for positive behavior during the week. All spectators had a blast cheering on their classmates and teachers throughout our time outside, as well.

As a staff we know it's important to work hard together, but it's also valuable to have fun. Activities like this support the relationships we are building with our students. I'm very grateful to the Sandburg staff who helped plan this day for our school community!

We are just past the midterm for the 1st quarter. Please take a moment this weekend to log into Infinite Campus to check your child's grades and have a discussion about any missing assignments. One of our activities yesterday was showing your students how to find the missing assignments and make note of what work needs to be completed to bring up their grades. Students should email their teachers with any questions. The staff directory is linked HERE for quick reference.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Erika Johansen

Sandburg Principal

Student Attendance

As a friendly reminder, classes start promptly at 7:50 and that means all students should be in the building before 7:45 so that they can be on time and ready for 1st period. A student is considered tardy to school if they enter the building after 7:50.

Please check your child's absences and tardies in Infinite Campus. We are now at the end of our first full month of school. Absence and tardy letters will be sent home within the next few weeks. This is a routine procedure to remind families the importance of having your child at school every day possible.

If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to call the absence line. It is available 24 hours a day. 847-963-7801.

If you are experiencing difficulties with getting your child to school, the Sandburg Student Services Team is here to help you! As a student service team at Carl Sandburg, our goal is to make each student feels welcomed and confident in their skills to succeed in junior high school. We provide resources to students and families informally, such as via our website, and formally to students, whether that be seeing students individually, in groups, or in classrooms.

Update from Nutrition Services

Due to supply chain issues, we are unable to serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at our schools. We hope to have them back in stock soon, but in the meantime, we will be serving Protein Power Packs so students will have a vegetarian option.

We know many families print off their menus for the month. Please note that if we have to change an offering due to the shortage, we will update menus online each Friday so families will know if there are any changes for the following week. Please check regularly if your child has a favorite that may be in short supply
