CGE Weekly Newsletter 5/3/2021
Welcome
Welcome to our weekly Gator Bites newsletter! Every Friday evening our team at CGE will send out any important updates for the following week. Our goal is to be prepared, transparent and informative! We appreciate your time and urge you to read through carefully each week- especially during these unconventional virtual learning weeks.
Stay safe, stay informed and stay Gator Strong! 🐊
From the Principal's Desk
Dr. Larry Savage, Principal
I learned Wednesday evening that CGE will be receiving support from central services for our assistant principal position in Ms. Taylor’s absence. I’m pleased to announce that starting this Monday, Ms. Beverly Browne will be on our campus Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12:30 to 4:30 to help out.
Ms. Browne served as a school administrator for 20+ years prior to her retirement from the role of principal at J.S. Waters Elementary in 2018. Included in Ms. Browne’s 20+ years as an administrator was a stint as principal of Perry Harrison Elementary from 2002-2006. I know that Ms. Browne is going to help us end the school year strong! Please join us in welcoming Ms. Browne to our team.

School Updates
From the Library
Reminder emails about checked out books will start going out weekly on Monday 5/3. Only students with books out will get an email. This is just to help keep everyone informed as we near the end of the year. As always, we want students to keep books until they are finished with them until the turn in deadline. Deadline for returning books is May 28. Not all books are from CGE. If the book title has a set of initials in brackets [ABC] beside it, the book was checked out at another school. If you send the book to school, Mrs. Griffin will return the books to the appropriate school.

Dear CGE Parents and Students,
Our school is hosting a virtual 5K to raise money for an outdoor mascot sculpture commemorating the first generation of Chatham Grove students and staff! But we need your help!
This event is customizable meaning everyone from serious runners to fun runners/walkers/cyclists/ skaters can participate. It is open to friends and family and there is a link for donations, if there are people you know who will help support our school but who cannot participate in the physical activity.

Parent Pro-Tips for Social Emotional Learning Art Activities for the Whole Family!
Creating art that engages and strengthens your social and emotional muscles is a great way to make connections between feelings and creativity. Here’s my idea for the week!
Partner Art Trade- Making something for someone else is a great way to encourage students to think about others. Have students create a small artist trading card, mini-masterpiece, or positive portrait of a friend. Intentionally taking the time to focus on creating something for another person specifically strengthens the social awareness and relationship skills of students.
Any questions or ideas you might have, email Victoria Sylvestre, your friendly CGE art teacher! I’m also HAPPY to see the artwork that you make as a family 🧡
CGE Ongoing Information
The new reFUEL CGE needs your financial support!
Chatham Grove Elementary students who have been receiving Fuel Up food assistance will be transitioning over to the new reFUEL CGE program starting this summer, and we need your financial support to make this happen.
We will be following the reFUEL model by having nutritious shelf stable non-perishable food items delivered right to students’ homes, eliminating many of the obstacles traditional backpack programs run into. In order to be able to continue providing our students with this valuable resource through the summer, and into the new school year, we will need to raise $5,000, and then continue fundraising throughout the year.
Supporting reFUEL CGE students is easy: make a monthly or one-time tax-deductible donation through *PayPal, or if you would prefer you can make your donation by *check.
· $60 a month will provide a student with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 3 dinners & snacks each weekend for a month
· $180 will cover that same student’s needs for the entire summer
· $5 a month will even make a difference to a hungry child
Please consider helping us help our hungry children. Thank you!

Attendance and Plan A
As of April 12th, students in K-5 who are attending school in-person under Plan A will follow attendance rules as during a ‘normal’ year on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Plan A students will be marked absent on days they are not at school (in-person), and they will not be able to log into their class remotely. An exception will be granted when students are having to quarantine.
Students New to CGE:
We are excited to have many of our students returning to Chatham Grove. If you are interested, please review the following videos for a school tour and arrival/dismissal procedures for the bus and carpool.
Bus Rider Procedures
Important Carpool/Walker Reminders
We are continuing to improve our carpool and walker dismissal procedures. Please be sure to read through the following tips to help! Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation!
-Pull up close as close as possible to the cars in front to allow more cars to fit onto campus. We have been able to significantly reduce cars off campus this week.
-Do not block the intersection on Andrews Store Road.
-Please have your students ready with everything they need to exit the car in a timely fashion when you arrive at our drop off points. If needed, please utilize our Staff parking lot if your students are not prepared to exit their vehicles.
-Walkers, please continue to socially distance while waiting for your students.
