More information about our Hat Day

HATS FOR HERB

Tiogue School lost a dear member of our community this summer. On July 5th, our custodian Mr. Herb Pimental, suddenly passed away of a heart attack. We are raising money to support a CTA scholarship in his name. Hat Day was this past Friday, September 13th. Herb's family is so grateful for your support. They will be coming to school very soon to speak with some of our students and teachers about the scholarship in Herb's name.

START WITH HELLO WEEK - September 23rd this year

Here is a parent brochure that explains about our week of activities and philosophy of the Start with HELLO program. All schools in the district will be taking part in this initiative.

Overview of possible activities:

Monday: 2 Brief School Assemblies for (K-2 and 3-5): Start With Hello video presentation & Overview for the week- "Hello, my name is" stickers for everyone to wear in the building.

Our Summer Readers will be recognized at each assembly as well.

Tuesday: Make 'Start With Hello' Poster to put outside classrooms

Wednesday: 'Start with Hello' creative writing with cross-grade level buddies. Presentations to each other; peer to peer. (Essay, poem, songs, raps, letters or skits - whatever students choose to do)

Thursday: 'Start with Hello' Compliment Day. Make a compliment paper-chain for all the compliments given to others to hang around the school and classrooms.

Friday: 'Start with Hello' & Tiogue Spirit Day: wear green and wear Tiogue gear & Get Caught Saying Hello Day. Give stickers and/or Brave Bucks to students who get caught saying Hello to one another, especially people who you may not know too well.

Our teachers have autonomy to go beyond the above ideas.

What's Happening at Tiogue Elementary School, Home of the Timberwolves

Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, September 24th this year. Save the Date!

6:30pm

Our Attendance goals and programs will be discussed that evening. Our data is trending in a very good direction! During our first 7 days of school, we have not seen any significant absences. Last year, after only 12 days of school, we had over 400 student absences! That number needed to come down tremendously, and it looks like it has thus far. The research is clear and we all know that sending a child to school each day, during their elementary years, will

have a direct impact on future time out of school at the secondary level. Let's keep up the good work. Our chronic absenteeism is still quite high, but the good news is that our overall attendance data is positive and we had more students achieve perfect attendance for several months, than ever before.
