Keep the Impact Going!
Even though ACE's Month of Impact is over, as a chapter, we encourage you to keep making an impact! Last month we brought you a great opportunity to give back through a donation of time and resources to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This month we are eager to share with you another worthwhile charity that is working to make a difference for families affected by a child's significant illness. The Make a Wish Foundation grants wishes to children who are diagnosed with a critical illness. "For children diagnosed with critical illnesses, a wish come true can be a crucial turning point in their lives. A wish can be that spark that helps children believe that anything is possible and gives them the strength to fight harder against their illnesses".

September Recap
September Chapter Member Meeting
At our September member meeting, we highlighting the work of fellow Sigma member and ACE Alumni Dr. Renee Beniak! Renee graduated with with her MSN in Nursing Administration. Dr. Beniak is a dedicated healthcare professional with over 35 years of experience in long-term care, including 25 years of progressive leadership roles in quality improvement and healthcare management. In our meeting, Dr. Beniak shared insights on how each of us, as professional nurses, can get involved in grant writing. Her presentation highlighted how our individual perspectives can uniquely contribute to this meaningful endeavor.

November Chapter Member Meeting
Guest Speaker- Phoebe Wall: Writing for Advocacy
Phoebe Wall Howard is an auto reporter at the Detroit Free Press. She writes about the auto industry with an emphasis on Ford Motor Co., the UAW, consumer trends, investor affairs, technology, product launches and executive analysis/profiles. She has worked in the Midwest, South and California covering business, politics, government regulation and labor negotiations. She returned to Detroit to cover the auto industry for the Detroit Free Press in 2017. Howard has a background in magazine, newspaper, radio and TV news with an expertise in political polling and social media. She is a sixth-generation Detroiter whose family painting business was based in Corktown.
What story or stories are you most proud of?
Articles documenting abusive conditions in an Iowa veterans home resulted in a change in public policy and oversight that saved lives. Articles documenting fake records kept by California truckers illegally dumping hundreds of thousands of gallons of restaurant grease into streams and waterways led to a crackdown in policing and the end to illegal polluting. Articles documenting a foster care system that actually “lost” children in a computer system and left them waiting years for adoption was cited in an Iowa Supreme Court case when judges overhauled the system. Having children call to thank you for making them not invisible anymore, I think that’s the winner.
This meeting will be recorded and sent out following the meeting.
