Holiday Giving Program

During conference week, Vernfield will have a decorated Giving Tree in the foyer decorated with various paper holiday themed ornaments with several gifting options. Some ornaments will have a suggested toy or clothing item, while others will have a gift card option for either Walmart or a local grocery store. Please return the gifts by FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13. Thank you in advance for helping us to brighten the holidays for our Vernfield families!

Mrs. Lightstone is offering a Scholastic Book Fair during the Parent-Teacher Conferences to give parents a chance to get a jump on their holiday shopping. The latest book titles will be available as well as fun and educational toys, craft kits and more!

  • Enter one of the many raffles being offered (no purchase necessary to enter!)
  • Receive a signed copy of I Survived The Hindenburg Disaster, 1937 (while supplies last) with a purchase of $50.00 or more

Athletic Shoe Drive Ending

The Thanksgiving break marks the end of our shoe drive fundraiser. Anyone with shoes to contribute should send them to school next week or bring them with you to the Parent Conferences.

New or used sneakers in wearable condition will earn more for us but we will be accepting sneakers and cleats in any condition. Sneakers with rips, holes, separated soles will be recycled.

Many thanks to all of you who have contributed to our Athletic Shoe Drive. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Hovind at

Holiday Shoppe - December 2-5

Vernfield will once again be hosting The Lil' Shopper's Shop® where children can pick out their own holiday gifts for their family and friends. The shop is set up and run by parent volunteers and all gifts are priced from 25¢ to $5.00. There are gifts for parents, brothers/sisters, grandparents, friends, aunts/uncles and even pets!

Shopping budget envelopes listing your child's scheduled shopping day will come home with your child the week of November 18th. You may send cash or purchase a gift certificate for the shop at:

Please consider volunteering for a shift to help the kids shop and manage their budgets. Many volunteers are needed to make Holiday Shoppe a great experience, and it's always a lot of fun!

Any questions or interested in volunteering? Please contact Alexandra Ricketts at, Lisa Mallon at or Juliet Kinch at

Please note: If financial assistance is needed, please contact

Nicole Kissell, (215) 721-0606. All inquiries will be strictly confidential.

Box Tops Update

Our Annual Box Tops race has kicked off and Third Grade got off to a big start with 509 box tops. Close behind was Fourth grade with 481, Kindergarten had 333 and Second and First tied both with 189 each. Fifth grade is waiting to get climbing up the tree (reference to the bulletin board in the lobby!). We submitted a total of 1,701 clipped box tops which earned the HSA $170.10.

Our total earnings so far this year are $331.60!

The additional $161.50 was earned through those of you who have been scanning your grocery receipts using the Box Tops app and through the Shop Rite for My School program. Each little submission that an individual makes gets added to our account and these add up to funds for our kids!

This new style of Box Tops may change the way we do our friendly competition in the future but please know that everything you are scanning is getting credited to us if you have specified that you want it to go to Vernfield Home and School. Any questions, please feel free to reach out,

Thanks to all of you who have made the transition to the app! Keep clipping and sending in for this year too!

You can download the Box Tops app from the App Store for iOS devices or Google Play for Android devices. Those of you who shop at Shoprite can earn even more box tops by registering your Price Plus club card at Shoprite for my School.

Big picture

Science Rocks! - Thank You!

Science Rocks ROCKED! A great big thanks to the Science Rocks chairs: Bernadette Kearns, Nancylynn Sicilia, and Alicia Adnopoz for organizing and making everything come together for a fun and educational night for the kids (and the parents!). We appreciate all of the committee volunteers who donated their time to make the night run smoothly.

We also want to say a HUGE thanks to presenters for the evening: Larry and Emily Dick, John and Bernadette Kearns, Mr. Gross, Mrs. Donovan, Mrs. Halteman, and Miss Billy, Mrs. Gehman, and Jon Simpson.

Vernfield Directory - Thank You!

The Vernfield printed directories were distributed and look fantastic! Thank you to the Directory committee, headed by Brooke Kuhlen and Lauren Hendricks, for gathering all of the entries and organizing it into such a great resource.

Rain Forest Animal Assembly

This week, students were treated to an assembly where they were introduced to animals from rain forests all around the world.

This assembly was made possible with the funds raised by the HSA. Your contribution to HSA fundraisers throughout the year pay for assemblies like this one as well as the other activities and events sponsored by the HSA. Thank you for your support and for allowing us to offer these exciting and interesting learning experiences for the students!
