Welcome To Raney IBMYP

2022-2023 School Year

Welcome to Raney IBMYP!

We are excited to welcome you (and welcome back returning students) to our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and can't wait for you to be a part of all the great things we have planned for this year! Raney IBMYP is a heavily digital program. Important news is distributed through digital newsletters like this one, and nearly all of our program-related materials and documents can be found on our webpage here: http://bit.ly/RaneyIBMYP

In this Welcome Edition newsletter, you will find some important information that you will need in the weeks leading up to your student's start of our program. If you find that you have additional questions, please feel free to ask: Bronya.Martinez@cnusd.k12.ca.us

Sincerely,

Mrs. Martinez

Raney IBMYP Coordinator

Stay Informed!

In addition to monthly newsletters like this one, Mrs. Martinez will send important information through the Remind App. We use this to send you program deadlines, reminders and urgent communications so you don't miss out on our activities. Sign up for the grade level your student will be in next year. Students can also sign up!

Beginning mid-August, we will be holding IB Student Council elections for the 2022-2023 Council positions. Elections will be held electronically through our IB Student Google Classroom. For more information about what is needed to be an elected member of your Student Council, please see our webpage HERE.

Service As Action

An important pillar of the IBMYP is community involvement and civic responsibility. To foster this quality in our students, all CNUSD IB programs require students to accumulate Service As Action hours during the school year.

  • 6th Grade = 10 hours
  • 7th Grade = 15 hours
  • 8th Grade = 20 hours
  • 9th Grade = 25 hours
  • 10th Grade = 30 hours

With proper planning, students are able to complete these requirements with just a few service events. Many students choose to go beyond and end up serving 3 or 4 times their minimum requirements.

Our Service As Action model has changed from the previous Community Service we had in years past. We ask that ALL new students wait until the school year begins before completing service events. This gives the Coordinator the opportunity to meet with them and show them how to correctly document the service hours and how to submit their hours for credit.

Please read our Service As Action Newsletter for more details.

Parent Booster Organization

Our Parent Booster is VITAL to our program! We could not provide our students with the many enrichment opportunities and fun events without this group of dedicated parents! Without the Board's planning and support, we would not be able to afford the field trips, dances, BBQ's or science camps or be able to organize all the other social family events that our students enjoy. The Executive Board (President, VP, Treasurer, Secretary, Activities Director and Fundraising Director) is elected by the IB parents every Spring for the following school year. "Many hands make light work" and the more involvement we have, the better the organization becomes and the more our students benefit! If you are interested in being involved with parent board activities for the 2022-2023 school year please contact our current Parent Booster President, Jason Bryant at coronaibmyp@gmail.com

Meet Mrs. Martinez (Program Coordinator)

Hello IB Students and Families,

I have been teaching IB students at Raney since 2004 and the IB Coordinator since July 2017. I grew up in the small town of Old Town, Maine (home of the Old Town Canoe Co.) with my parents and younger brother. After graduating from the University of Maine with a Music Education degree, I moved to California and was hired at Raney as the band director. I received a Masters in Education from Point Loma and a Masters in Music from CBU.

In my free time, I enjoy scuba diving and underwater photography with my husband. We frequent many popular dive sites in Southern California and sometimes the Caribbean. We also race dragon boats with a competitive team all over California and some neighboring states. My husband and I enjoy hiking and camping as well. We have three beautiful cats named Clara, Stella & Luna.

My other favorite thing is reading! I usually have at least three books going on at one time - a physical book, a digital book on my Kindle, and since I commute from Lakewood every day, an audiobook that I listen to while driving. My favorite genres are fantasy and historical fiction, but I will read any book that comes with a good recommendation!

Learner Profile of the Month - Risk Takers

Learner Profile of the Month Awards

Each month we celebrate our students who have excelled at embodying the IB Learner Profiles! The month of February was Risk-Takers. Risk-Takers approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and forethought, and have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas and strategies. They are brave and articulate in defending their beliefs..
