A Note from Ms. Deal

Dear Parents,

Field Day was a huge success. The kids enjoyed themselves and Mother Nature cooperated!

Next week will being with Day 3. The students will have P.E on Tuesday and Thursday.

Thank you for the patience and understanding regarding NWEA MAP Tests. There were some technical issues this week and we were unable to take the tests. I know the students were extremely disappointed (Haha!). Next week we will take them all: Math on Wednesday morning, Reading on Thursday morning and Language on Friday morning. Please help the kids get enough rest the night before testing and eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning.

Please note that the Music Concert will be on, Tuesday, May 24th at 6:30. Students should arrive to their classroom at 6:15. Dress for the concert is anything black and white. Please not writing or logos on the tops.

Thank you for looking over the Business Plans with the students. I am very excited about this year's Market Day. We have some very creative ideas. I hope you will all be able to join us for the event on June 7th from 8:00-11:30.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you,

Ms. Deal

Math

This week we spent most of our Math classes reviewing this year's math concepts. Students worked on skills they are less comfortable with in preparation for our upcoming standardized tests. We have worked on my math concepts this year and it was interesting to see how well the students have retained this knowledge. We are feeling confident for the test next week.

For the remainder of the year the students will use many math skills throughout the economy unit. Students will also inquire into a math concept or skill of their choice and do research to answer their inquiries.

Language Arts

Reading: The students have enjoyed reading poetry and are inspired by the many poets we have talked about.

Word Study: Students enhanced their economy vocabulary this week by working with words that we will see throughout the economy unit.

Writing: The students are writing some really great poems. This week we worked on acrostic poems.

Social Studies :

This week we began our Economy unit. We have discussed wants vs. needs, goods vs. services and even competition among businesses and target markets. We were able to go out to the PAFA Market Day and take pictures of interesting advertisements, goods, services, competition among goods and speak with local business owners. It was a great experience. We also looked at different child entrepreneurs from around the world to get our kids in the mood and inspired for their own market day on June 7th!

Field Day Fun!
