Journeying in Hope and Love: Building a Culture of Accompaniment
The Road to Emmaus
As they approached the village to which they were going,
he gave the impression that he was going on farther.
But they urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.”
So he went in to stay with them.
And it happened that, while he was with them at table,
he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.
With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him,
but he vanished from their sight.
Then they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning [within us]
while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?”
Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way
and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
~ Luke 24:28-32, 35
Dear St. Clare School Families,
It’s difficult to put into words the feelings one feels in response to news reports about what is happening in Ukraine. When something like this happens to others a half a world away, it’s easy to look away. Feelings of helplessness take over, with the hope that if we ignore it, the problem will go away.
Instead, we as Christians, as believers, are called to look anyway, to feel the pain anyway, so that the discomfort will move us to action. I found this as I was looking through old files, and thought I’d share it as a way to really realize our place in this whole situation. I believe that if we adopt this philosophy and teach it to our children, we could help them build a world where conflicts due to ego and greed will be eradicated, that LOVE for one another becomes the vaccine that will cure the world of war and enmity.
I am sharing this excerpt from Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course by Karen Casey
“I am not separate from others. I only think I am.”
It seems foreign to think of ourselves as One with others. How can we see others unless they are separate from us?
We need to remember that whatever we do to others we do to ourselves. If I snap at you, I get stung. If I gossip about you. I feel untrustworthy. If I hit you, I injure my own sense of self. Everything I do boomerangs back to me.
The concept of our connectedness is elusive. Probably the best way to grasp the idea is by noticing exactly how we feel each time we interact with other people. However we receive them, we receive ourselves. By loving them, we feel loved. By honoring them, we feel honored. By forgiving them, we become forgiven.
Today, I will treat others as I want to be treated. After all, we are One and the same.
RESPONDING TO THE CRISIS IN UKRAINE
We are working with Catholic Charities and hope to be able to push something out for our community to begin to help. In the meantime, this might help in your efforts to make a difference: Find out more about Caritas Ukraine, CRS’ response to Ukraine HERE.
MONDAY’S IN-SERVICE
Today, our teachers are gathering with other educators in our cohort of schools to refine our practice as it pertains to instruction and classroom climate. Our work calls us to be lifelong learners, modeling for our students that we are engaged in continuous improvement in order to meet each of them where they are.
In the afternoon our faculty and staff will update our certification as Mandated Reporters. These in-service days allow us to be able to gather as a complete staff without having to arrange for coverage. There is also great value in being able to learn together, in community. It gives us an opportunity to check for understanding and surface misconceptions. It helps with fidelity to implementation of processes and strengthens learning through the shared experience. Thank you for allowing us to do this!

2021-22 School Calendar
Below, you will find the Calendar Grid for the school year. Some find this difficult to navigate, so I’ve created the Calendar Highlights document which I hope will make it a bit easier for you to consume.
Some changes since the end of the school year: we added September 20th as a NO SCHOOL DAY and our School Year will end a day earlier. The original calendar had us attending 183 days of school, knowing that we had three days over the required 180 days. We are keeping the 181 days in the event we have to close for an emergency due to poor air quality.
Other options to view the calendar include a Google calendar synched to ParentSquare, or subscribing to the St. Clare School Public Calendar below:
