A Note From Your Principal...
Dear Ebeling Families:
The 2019-2020 school year is off to a fantastic start! It is terrific to see the students, smiling and eager to learn, returning from the summer break. Along with your children, the staff and I are excited about the possibilities that this new year brings. Our enrollment has grown this year, and we welcome many new students to our Eagle Family. In addition, new teachers joining us are: Mrs. Cesaro (2nd grade), Ms. Gjokaj (3rd grade), Ms. Duffy (4th grade), Ms. Lewandowski (6th grade), Mrs. Ryan (6th grade), Literacy Coach Mrs. McInally, and new Learning Center teacher Mrs. Taylor. Please read through this issue of our “Eagle News” to find out about upcoming events and activities.
The smiles on the students’ faces truly make the many weeks of preparation prior to school rewarding. The teachers have been, and continue to work diligently to ensure the best educational experience for your children. I know that we will have a fabulous school year as we learn and grow together to help every child achieve.
Our Curriculum Night will be held Monday, September 16th, starting at 6:00 p.m. Please plan to attend this very important Parents Only evening; showing your commitment to your child’s education and teacher is the first step toward academic success. It is all of us working together as a team that will guide your children to reach their highest potential.
Our annual “Back to School Picnic” will be held on September 27th from 5:30-8:30 p.m. A team of parents are planning what is to be another great outing for our children, parents, and staff to come together and enjoy a night of festivities! Help is still needed. Please see the PTA information inside this newsletter to help support our picnic. Our first PTA meeting of the year is scheduled for October 23 at 7:00 p.m. in our Media Center, and provides another opportunity to make a difference.
Please note that all of our classrooms are designated nut safe, requiring all food or drink items eaten in the classrooms to be peanut and tree nut free. Teachers will be reviewing this information at our Open House/Curriculum Night, but if you have questions before that evening, please ask!
Thank you again for your partnership in your children’s education, and I am looking forward to a great year!
Mrs. Bailey

Requesting Bus Passes
Requesting Bus Passes
Bus passes will be permitted if a bus has not reached capacity. Both students must submit a note before lunchtime from their parent to the Main Office. Transportation rules require that both of the students qualify for bus transportation. The signed note from the parent should include the student’s normal bus number as well as the bus number that they will be a visitor on. The pass can be picked up in the office by one of the students later in the day.
We are sorry but last minute notes or calls home for forgotten notes cannot be permitted. Passes are not issued on half days of school.
Cell Phone and Electronics Use Prohibited in School
The use of cell phones, pagers/beepers or other electronic communications devices (ECD) by students is prohibited at any time while in school or on a district vehicle. Secondary students may carry ECDs during the school day, but they cannot be displayed or used. Elementary students are not permitted to possess an ECD at any time.
The use of an ECD’s picture-taking or internet connection capability is not permitted. Utica Community Schools will not be responsible for the theft, loss or damage of any ECD.

Parking Lot Procedures
If you drive your children to school in the morning, an overview of our procedure and some rules are outlined below. This procedure provides a better traffic flow, allowing students to get into school before the bell at 8:25 a.m. In order for this procedure to work, drivers and pedestrians need to follow a few simple (but very important) rules.
Parking lot attendant and teachers are on duty at 8:15 a.m. Before that time, there are no adults supervising. Do not leave your child in the parking lot or in front of the school alone before 8:15. Student arrival should be timed between 8:15 and 8:25 a.m.
- Buses have the right-of-way. DO NOT enter the bus lane when a bus is in sight
- Children exiting vehicles along the curb in the ‘bus lane’ must exit on the curb side
- Students must exit the vehicle quickly when it stops
- All pedestrians must walk to the crosswalk for a safe crossing
- Traffic should move slowly through the parking lot
Please note that the after school pick-up procedure has not changed. The parking lot attendant on Haverhill will indicate to drivers when parking spots are available. The bus lane will be strictly for bus traffic only at dismissal time.
Other helpful hints:
· Drop off or pick up your child outside of the parking lot. Some great drop off and pick up locations include: at the four-way-stop (Haverhill and Tilch), or at the end of the catwalk (Tilch and the catwalk)
· Make a plan with your child for those days that you cannot manage a parking spot. Some ideas include: waiting with the teacher, going to the office, waiting by the crossing guard, or naming a pick-up spot (for example: wait by the blue picnic table by door 9, the flagpole, etc). Planning ahead makes things less stressful when traffic, weather, or the parking lot change your routine.
Coats For Kids
Could You Use a Warm Coat?
