Purple Shore Crab

Location:Mid-intertidal near rocky shores

The Purple Shore Crab undergoes many changes throughout the day. The temperature can change greatly due to less water which allow for more penetration from the sun. The water level can also cause the ratio of salt and water to change as well. The limited water give less space for a lot of competition as well.

The shore crab can sometimes be washes up to hide under rocks to avoid high salt levels and the intense sun rays.

Body adaptation: The crab has a flat hard exoskeleton to protect it and enable it to hide under rocks.

The crab moves by walking with its legs. It eats algae and other smaller organisms and is preyed upon by seagulls mainly.
