Parking Lot Safety!
We have had numerous complaints, accidents, and near misses after school during pick up! Here are 3 ways YOU can help!
1. DO NOT BLOCK THE ENTRY- PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE ENTRY- If the front lot is full continue into the side lot (to the left) keeping the entry clear. We feel this is the largest issue with traffic flow. DO NOT STOP when pulling in if you cannot keep the entry clear!
2. PLEASE PULL INTO THE SIDE LOT FOR PICK UP- this will help with the flow of traffic and clear the blockage on Warm Springs Ave where accidents happen. Do not allow your student to access your vehicle while you are on the road waiting. Pull into the East lot or wait at the Ranch Market.
3. CLOSE THE GAP - if you are picking up in front of the school and NOT blocking the entry please pull up as far as possible to the car in front of you so we can accommodate more vehicles.
Thank you for helping to do your part! We are looking for parking lot volunteers and have contacted BPD to further assistance.
Boise School Board Approves Updated Health & Safety Plan
The Boise School Board has approved an updated Health & Safety Plan that, among other things, makes masks optional but not immediately. Implementation of the plan will be based on the following criteria, which, if met, means the plan will go into effect on Monday, March 28, 2022, the first day back from Spring Break:
Community transmission of infectious disease
Spread of infectious disease in our schools
Operational impact of employee & student absenteeism
Input from health care professionals
In addition to making masks optional, the approved updated Health & Safety Plan includes returning the District's visitor and volunteer protocols and school activities that were in place before the COVID-19 pandemic and implementing the District’s Illness Procedure guidelines. The illness guidelines detail when students should stay home based on certain symptoms, and explain when someone may return to school based on the health care provider's instructions. District officials said implementing the plan at the beginning of the fourth quarter on March 28th allows the District to continue to monitor community transmission and make sure cases continue to decline.
Until the updated Health & Safety Plan is implemented, the Boise School District will continue to:
Monitor local conditions
Implement the District's current pandemic level mitigation measures, including universal masking
Parent Survey
One of the pieces of Idaho’s new school accountability system is a parent survey. This survey asks for your input on several topics to help measure how our schools are doing in meeting your needs. To access the survey, visit this site: https://eprovesurveys.advanc-ed.org/surveys/#/action/184180/p30811
Then pick your student’s school from the drop-down menu. If you have students in different schools within our school district, complete the survey for each school. This survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete and your responses are anonymous. You can submit your survey until April 1, 2022.
We will use these survey responses to identify opportunities to maximize satisfaction, engagement, and communication. Additionally, the state will report the results and the number of responses on Idaho’s new school report card.
March Character Trait
Our March Character Trait is Honesty. We will focus on this character trait in a variety of different ways throughout March. It will be used for Student of the Month recommendations, Hornet Cards, and weekly Student Announcements. Honesty is about adhering to the facts, being fair and straightforward in your conduct. Actions include telling the truth, saying what you mean, keeping your promises, admitting and correcting mistakes even if others do not notice, and giving credit for a borrowed idea.

The PTO will be running a capital giving campaign to help fund this sign and make other school improvements. Our goal is to install the sign this summer if funding and permits allow.
If you would like to contribute with a tax-deductible donation, please send a check to the office c/o BPSEF or Venmo @EastJrHigh-PTO

Hornet Huddle
Last month we shared information about our daily Hornet Huddle time. If you remember, every day right before 3rd period, we have a 19 minute Hornet Huddle time. We focus on academic preparedness, reading, and building/growing positive relationships between staff and students during our Hornet Huddle time. Over the next few Hornet Nation Newsletters, we will be going over our daily goals for our Hornet Huddle time (each day has a different focus). This month we are excited to share about “Wellness Wednesday”. Social and Emotional wellness is a district and building goal this year. The intention is to help students and staff manage their stress as we adapt to a “normal” school year and to help our students develop emotional and ethical literacy. Students should feel relaxed at the end of these 15-minute sessions. There is a mindfulness activity for each Wednesday.

Don't Forget to Bring Chromebooks Everyday!
Our supply of Chromebooks is very limited due to supply shortages and damaged/non-functioning devices, so the library may not always have enough Chromebooks to check out to students who forget to bring or charge theirs.
Please be sure students bring their Chromebooks charged and ready for school every day.
Tutoring at Timberline High School
Timberline High School is starting an afterschool tutoring program, offering academic help to both our students as well as East and Les Bois Junior High students.
Our team of capable high school students is volunteering their time and their expertise in order to help other students. They are supervised by a certified teacher and this is a great opportunity for your student to get help in a specific content area or spend additional time reviewing school materials. This time can also be used to help accelerate your student's academic progress.
Students will work in our library, and days and times include:
Monday 3:15 - 4:30
Wednesday 3:15 - 4:30
Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Parents are welcome to transport junior high students to Timberline themselves if they are able, or they can fill out the Alternate Site Application to ride a bus from their junior high that drops off at a stop near Timberline High School on Mondays and Wednesdays. Parents/guardians are responsible for finding transportation home from Timberline after tutoring. And of course, high school students are welcome to transport themselves.
If you would like to sign your child up for the THS Tutoring program, please complete THIS FORM. Students are also welcome to drop in without signing up on the form.
