Principal's Message
Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s Move Week for the Y3/4s next week – the more the merrier! Please come to the office at 9:30 am so we can get things moving if you are able to help.
Y3 Move Day Tuesday 19 June
Y4 Move Day Thursday 21 June
DROP OFF ZONE:
Many people have been asking when or if the drop off zone will be reinstated. After vigorous discussion at School Council and investigation with the Department of Education & Training, the decision has been made to keep the drop off zone on the street going forward. There are many legal implications when drop off zones are on school grounds and this is something that DET are not supportive of. Going forward the space will become staff parking. The gates will be closed at 8:45am to prevent children from walking through the carpark and opened again at 3:45pm once the school grounds are clear. If you would like to discuss this matter in more detail please do come and chat with me. Our main aim as always is to keep the children as safe as possible.

STAFFING:
Many of you will already be aware that Chloe Mansbridge is leaving us at the end of this term to travel and live in Manly with her partner. Whilst this is an awesome opportunity for Chloe, it is obviously a loss for us at Parkhill, and her influence will be missed across the community. We interviewed yesterday to replace Chloe for the rest of 2018 and have appointed Nalina Chandra. Nalina is well known to us at Parkhill and is an excellent teacher. I am sure you will join with me in wishing Chloe the very best for the future and in warmly welcoming Nalina to the team!
BEFORE SCHOOL ARRANGEMENTS:
It is important to note that there is NO supervision on the schoolyard until 8:45 am. Children should not be on the playground before this time and certainly not as early as 8:15 am. It is cold in the mornings at the moment and I am seeing more and more students arriving between 8:10 and 8:45 – this is too early! I urge you to find alternative arrangements.
TAKING ACTION:
The power of inquiry learning is when children choose to take action. I love when children from across the school are enthused by their learning and come to see me wanting to do something with what they have learned. Action gives learning a real purpose and has an impact! Just the other day a Y2 student asked if they could raise money through a ‘Guess the Lollies in the Jar’ competition so she could support the World Wildlife Fund. The children have been learning about the impact humans have on the environment and how this affects animals, they have been specifically looking at endangered species. LUNCH IDEAS:
I know I am always looking for new lunch ideas and ones which are healthy but also filling – with the added challenge of being something they can eat easily and even carry out onto the playground if needed. The challenge is real, and being a busy mum, it’s tricky to find the time to prepare elaborate lunches! There are many simple ideas about online! https://natashaskitchen.com/practical-school-lunch-ideas-cold-hot/
Have a great weekend – stay warm!

Y3/4 Speaking Competition
Last week Y3 and Y4 students took part in our House Speaking Competition. They wrote and rehearsed speeches on the topic ‘Someone I Admire’ – their speeches covered people from all walks of life including athletes, family members and YouTubers. It was a great opportunity for students to practise and improve their public speaking skills and share feedback with each other. Thank you to all Y3 and Y4 students for their hard work and for being respectful and attentive audience members during our heats and finals. Thank you also to our special guest judge, Dyon Hunt – we know it wasn’t an easy decision!
Congratulations to our finalists, Jimmy D (4G), Minh T (4G), Lazar A (4N), Angela W (4N), Jeffrey C (3M), Luke C (3R), Akira H (3R) and to our winner, Milan T (3M).

Thank you to Kylie B, Julie, Elle, Marinda, Fiona, Eva, Kerrie, Sumi and Helen who baked all those yummy treats that were devoured at this week’s Cupcake Stall.
