Stephen Rey
Freshman; Aerospace Major
Where are you from?
I was born in Manati, Puerto Rico and at the age at 4 I moved to the city of Pembroke Pines in South Florida. I've spent the remainder of my 18 years there until coming up here to O-town where I intend to spend the next 5 years attending UCF.
What is your major?
Since the 6th grade I've been intrigued by astronomy, mathematics, and physics. Some people would say why not become an Astrophysicist like the legend himself Neil Degrasse Tyson, but somewhere along the way I discovered a passion for the engineering process. Therefore, I matched the four and decided to pursue a major in Aerospace engineering.
Why did you decide to become a part of EXCEL/COMPASS?
I decided to become part of the EXCEL program in order to surround myself with fellow students in the STEM fields, specifically those in my engineering field/major, and have the opportunity to be part of internships that will give me the experience I need to be successful in the current and future job market.
How do you think EXCEL/COMPASS will help you succeed in your first year of college?
I believe the EXCEL program will help me succeed my first year of college by granting me the opportunity to refine my skills in math and sciences thanks to the assistance of various individuals available at the EXCEL/COMPASS lab and at study sessions.
