Student Scoop
One of my favorite Gifted Teacher Mentors, Ian Byrd, sends out a list of "puzzlements and curiosities" each month. This month, he shared this collection of wave photographs by a color-blind coal miner. They are absolutely breathtaking. Check them out and then think about these questions:
- How do you make a camera waterproof?
- Why do the waves look solid?
- How does color-blindness work?
If you have ideas, or if you take an amazing picture, share that with me! Email me at elly.gilbert2@frankfort.kyschools.us.

Teacher Talk
I have TWO teacher shout outs for this week.
- The Shaw family wanted to recognize Mr. Al Perry at FHS. Here is what they had to say about him, "Mr. Perry takes the time to get to know his students and fosters positive relationships with students that maximize their learning potential."
- The Marshall family had this to say about SSS 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Dana Dickerson (who was a student in my 6th grade class!), "Mrs. Dickerson is a wonderful asset to all of the kids, including our boys. She inspires and encourages the kids to work hard and challenge themselves. She knows her students well and for this reason, she is able to provide opportunities to let their individuality shine. We have seen our boys’ confidence and love for learning grow so much this year. Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Dickerson! "
Nominate a student for recognition by clicking this link and telling me about a gifted kid in your class who really shines.

My family saw the new movie over the weekend. I didn't love it. I really wanted to, but I just didn't! It strayed from the book, which I expected, but for me, there were certain elements left out that were necessary. It was beautifully made, though. The costumes, makeup, and sets were amazing. I loved the casting. It was well acted. I just was missing that L'Engle touch that made the book so special.
