#READvolution Results
We had 88 Pandas who exceeded 800 minutes read during READvolution. They’ve earned a redemption code toward 2 free Hurricanes hockey tickets and in case their families need to buy additional tickets so everyone can go to the game, additional discounted tickets will be offered for purchase (codes are forthcoming, unsure yet of how that process is going to work). All students, however logged a minimum of 2 books and 10 minutes thanks to #ReadWithMissFisher.
Mrs. Jeremiah
PES Arrival Updates
Beginning Monday, November 26th, all visitors need to check in and out through the main office during arrival if you wish to walk your child to class. Families can also opt for Kiss and Go outside the red and green entrance doors. These changes will allow us to move closer to the proposals made from the Chatham County Schools Safety Assessment conducted in the Spring of 2018. No further changes to arrival or dismissal will be made this school year.
Below is more information related the Chatham County Schools Safety Assessment.
Chatham County is one of the first school districts in the state to contract with an outside firm for this kind of work. A number of groups were reviewed and three were invited to provide proposals. RSM (Risk and Strategic Management) from Virginia was selected for a variety of reasons, including their ongoing work in this area (school safety) across the country. In addition, RSM works around the world to provide these kinds of services to governments and to the military. We have embarked on a long standing relationship with them which includes the assessment visit/follow up report, a new Crisis Plan format/approach, and a comprehensive approach to School Safety Professional Development for students/staff/and even parents.
As for specific recommendations from the Assessment Visit Report, this is confidential information and cannot be released to the public per statute. However, all campuses were visited and reviewed. Managing stakeholder access across the district was mentioned as an area in need of improvement.

Battle of the Books
All 4th Grade PES Students are invited to participate in Battle of the Books! Battle of the Books (BOB) team members read similar chapter books then answer questions about those books. The primary purpose of Battle of the Books is to provide voluntary reading enjoyment opportunities for our students. Please fill out the BOB Contract and return to Mrs. Jeremiah if you are interested! She also has paper copies to pick up in the media center.
PES Young Authors
PES is accepting original stories written by students in grades K-4 for the Chatham County Schools Young Authors writing program. Each year all student authors are invited to write, publish and submit their own book. Judges from the school staff will read and reflect on each book. All students who submit a book for Young Authors will be recognized during school wide celebrations in the spring. A small number of student books will be selected to be recognized at a district wide celebration at Fearrington Village scheduled for Tuesday, April 9th, 2019 at 5:30pm.
2018-2019 - Submissions Due to the school library by Friday, January 18th, 2019!
Questions or comments should be directed to Karen Jeremiah, PES school librarian, kjeremiah@chatham.k12.nc.us Feel free to visit the library to see examples of Young Authors books from years past. Information page here
