Developing Confident, Competent and Compassionate People.

Principal's Message

Dear Columbia Families,

Columbia Elementary is fortunate to enjoy the benefits of an active and supportive PTA. Our PTA is one with a broad base of volunteers, as well as one that is very well organized. It is exciting to watch many Columbia parents share the load in serving the school community.

Thank you so much to our PTA board, committee chairs, and many volunteers. Your efforts help make Columbia a great place for students, families and staff. I cannot thank you enough for all of the time, energy, resources and talent you share with us.

When parents volunteer at school, it makes a big difference for the school as a whole, as well as for the children of the volunteers. Did you know that you contribute to better school attendance, improved grades and test scores, less misbehavior, better social skills, staying in school, graduating, and going on to college? You help create a welcome and supporting environment, act as positive role models and as student motivators. Students see adult volunteers and know that adults respect learning and take school seriously. Please coordinate a time with your child's teacher to volunteer in their classroom. Remember to fill out the volunteer package prior to volunteering.

Thank you, Columbia PTA! We appreciate all that you do for our school!

Best regards,

Mr. Denton

Parent Input Form for Class Placement

At Columbia Elementary we carefully assign students to classes considering academic, behavior and social needs. This is a collaborative team process working toward balanced classrooms that are best for our students. In addition, each team makes it a priority to place your child with a teacher who best fits your child’s learning style and needs. Parents may have additional insights that help us ensure a productive year. If you would like to provide input to this process, an online parental input form is available. Please know that we cannot accommodate requests for specific teachers. Completing the form is optional. Submissions are due by Friday, May 5.

Keep in mind, your child’s teacher will receive this input and present it to the placement team. Please click the button below and use this form only. Please avoid letters, calls or emails for placement purposes, unless you need help with the form.

Please click the link bellow to fill out the parent input form.

      Fitness and Health Corner

April is the month to get outside and get moving. It is the perfect time to ride your bike, walk the dog, work in the yard, or simply go for a walk. Whatever you choose to do, please get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Remember, the Vitamin D from the sunshine is good for your health.

Thank you very much to our students, parents, and community for their support of our annual Kid Heart Challenge fundraiser. Your donations help to fund vital research and educate the public about cardiovascular disease and stroke. Our top collectors were Lila (3rd), Owen (4th) and Levi (5th). I’m so proud of you ALL!!!

      Message from the Library

Are you planning to kick off the season with a little spring cleaning? We would love to take any gently-read children’s books off your hands to use to fill our Columbia Little Library. Our readers have been enjoying the opportunity to select from the little library and would welcome any contributions of books ready for new homes! Books may be dropped off in the blue bin outside of the office hallway library entrance, or your child is welcome to bring them in on or before their library day.

Thank you so much for your support!

      Popcorn Friday!

Columbia PTA will give out free popcorn to students during their lunch period. The special ingredient in our popcorn on Popcorn Fridays are the parent volunteers. Volunteers are needed to make and handout popcorn during recess.

Please consider signing up if you're able on Friday, April 7, 2023!

Give it a try – it is a wonderful way to meet other Columbia parents as well as spend time getting to know the students and staff at Columbia!

      Poetry-By-Heart

April is National Poetry Month! Students can celebrate by participating in Columbia Elementary’ s Poetry-By-Heart Contest.

This contest is a great opportunity for students to learn a poem from a pre-approved list for their grade, memorize the poem and then recite their poem in front of a group of judges. Reciting poetry, gives students the freedom to express feelings to an audience, develop confidence and training your brain to remember things. Students will be judged on poise, presentation, and memorization.

For more information, poem lists, and how to sign-up, visit Columbia's Poetry-By-Heart website.

Deadline to sign-up is April 9. Students will recite their poems for judging during school hours the week of May 1-5.

      Attendance Line

If your student will absent or tardy, please leave a message on our 24 Hours attendance line at (425) 366-2605. If the absence is reported after 10:00 am, you may receive an automated call.

      Please include:

      • Student First and Last Name
      • Date of absence
      • Reason for absence.

We will only return your call or voicemail if we have questions.

      Attendance Matters

Did you know that just TWO absent days a month can make it harder for students to stay on track? Attendance matters for all of us at Columbia Elementary, and we need your help! If you need support, please call (425) 366-2600.

      • Early Pick-Up

If your child will be leaving early for the day, families/guardians will need to send a note, email the teacher or call the office on the main line at 425-366-2600. Please do not leave a message on the attendance line. Please avoid picking up during their scheduled lunch, recess or time with specialists as it may take extra time to retrieve your student. Only an authorized person may take a child from school. Any student being dismissed prior to the regular dismissal time must be met in the office, where the student must be signed out by the parent/guardian or authorized person.

      • Pre-Arranged Absence

Any absence not specifically covered, such as family vacations or other extended absence, must have a Principal approved pre-arranged absence form in order to be excused. This form must be completed and submitted to the school office one week prior to the scheduled absence.

      Free Meals for all Students!

This year all children are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch. If your child has dietary restrictions, or you don’t want your child to eat the school-provided meals, please tell your child’s teacher. If you send lunch from home, please make sure your child can independently open all items and that you send healthy foods your child will eat.

Breakfast is served from 8:35-8:50 AM daily.

Lunch is served by grade level at their designated lunch time.
