What's Happening This Week!

What are we Learning?

Reading - We will continue to explore the different types of Nonfiction: reference, literary nonfiction, and biography. This week, we will learn about reference books and their use of text features to give information. At the end of the week, we will also begin identifying the main idea and details in a nonfiction text.

Phonics/Spelling - This week we will begin working on suffixes. Students will learn to make words plural (s, es), past or present (ed, ing), and comparisons (er, est).

Trick Words (Unit 4): again, please, animal, sure, use, used

Writing - This week begins our Nonfiction Writing Unit. This goes perfectly with our Nonfiction Reading. Students will explore topics that they can write about. We will learn how to write topic sentences and add details.

Math - For our buffer week of math, students will start an introduction to Time & Money. We will learn to tell time to the Hour and Half Hour. We will also learn to identify coins and their values. I've listed some helpful IXL topics at the bottom. I will also send home IXL logins (Friday Take Home folders) so that you can practice at home! This is optional, but very helpful!

Social Studies - This concludes our Communities Unit. Students will work on their ABC Community books this week.

Science - We will begin our Nutrition Unit. Students will learn why it is important to put healthy food into their bodies. Next week, we will begin to learn about the basic food groups.
