From Mr. Clemente

Dear Winter Park Band families,

I hope everyone is decompressing and relaxing on this long holiday weekend!

THANK YOU to all of our parent chaperones and physical operations crew for all your work Friday evening, especially to some of the new faces who chaperoned for the very first time. Robyn Fodor, Heather Ribaric, and Keith Gavin led the way coordinating both sets of parent volunteers. Parents - chaperoning is lots of fun! You get to meet your student's peers, free transportation to and from the games, and free admission. Please reach out to either Robyn or Keith and sign up for an upcoming chaperone opportunity.

Program Ads and Sponsors: This is the final week for ads to be sold and for sponsorships to be collected. This is our biggest "bang-for-the-buck" fundraiser for the year, and I really encourage each family in the Band to sell at least one ad in the program! Even if it is a shoutout to your own student, you get 60% of that ad space payment back to you as fundraising credit. Please see Julie Capps' section below for details and how to reach out to her with questions.

Unfortunately, the "President's Own" Marine Band has made the decision to cancel their fall 2021 tour, and will no longer be coming to WPHS to perform on Tuesday, October 12. The marching band rehearsal that was altered for that day will be moved back to our regular 6 - 8:30 PM time slot.

Let's make it a great 4-day week!

Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President, Natalie Storch

Week of September 5, 2021

Hello everyone. Thank you to the wonderful parents who worked in the rain helping with equipment, food, students, pictures, uniforms, OPS, and all things band for the rainy home game! We have such an amazing group of volunteers this year! It is so much fun to get to know each one of you. Your help is so appreciated by the students, the band directors, and me. You help make the band program as amazing as it is!

If you are not aware, Middle School Night (where the middle school students come and sit/play with our band, to get a feel for what marching band is all about in high school), is September 17, 2021. If you know any band students at any of the feeder middle schools or at magnet schools who are coming to Winter Park next year and who might not know about this night, PLEASE reach out and encourage them to attend. It is a lot of fun! Our directors, students, and parents can answer questions about all things band, and encourage the students/parents to continue in the band program in high school, so we will have an enthusiastic and involved incoming Freshman band class next year! Please help welcome the students and parents if you are volunteering or are in the stands. It makes a huge difference to the program.

Parents of Seniors-Senior Night is coming soon (October 22, 2021). We are planning some fun things for senior night (where the seniors and their parents are recognized on the field before the game), so if you would like to be involved in helping with the planning and execution, please email me at It would be wonderful to have a senior parent who would like to spearhead our efforts, although it will take a team to make it happen. Please let me know if you can help.

This week is an away game, so if you have not volunteered for a football game yet this year, I encourage you to sign up soon. If you have a senior, there are not many games left in the year! We would love it if every family could volunteer for at least one game during the year.

Also, if there is a parent with a CDL license who can help drive the trailer, please contact Keith Gavin at

Thank you everyone. Have a fantastic week!

This is the last week to buy or sell an ad or sponsorship in the 2021-22 Band Program. Don’t miss your chance to participate and support the WPHS band program.

Ad sales close Wednesday, September 8. If you are considering buying an ad or have a contact that has expressed interest, please make sure to finalize your paperwork this week.

Parents of seniors – this is a great opportunity to honor your band student with an ad featured in the program handed out at all band concerts during the school year. Celebrate their last year with a memorable tribute!

Supplement your band cost – any ad or sponsorship sold to a local business will be delivered as a credit to your account at 60% of the final purchase price. This can easily help you defray your financial obligation to the Band.

Additional information - Ad pricing ranges as low as $65 (business card size) and runs all the way up to $325 (full-page ad). Information packets were distributed at band camp. Copies of that packet can be accessed on the Band website by clicking on the “About” link and then selecting Band Boosters.

Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to celebrate your student or spotlight your business while earning credit towards your student’s fair share expenses.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email:

Whether a student is learning a musical instrument to pursue a career in music, or simply for personal musical fulfillment and recreation, private lessons are one of the best investments that a parent can provide for their musical child. When working with a private teacher, students receive one-on-one instruction from a professional musician who specializes on that instrument.

Unlike a full band rehearsal experience, studying with a private teacher focuses in on the student’s individual needs. Students who study privately once a week from a professional musician are usually those who excel and find Band more enjoyable. These students frequently earn positions in honor groups like All-State and All-County, and make entry into our more advanced bands like Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble I. Some even go on to earn college scholarships, even if they are not majoring in music!

By following the link below, you will find a list of local private teachers. This list is not exhaustive, and there may be other individuals who are not on the list. If you know a private teacher who should be added (or would like to be deleted), please contact Mr. Clemente at
