Scholars Bowl - Ms. Garrison
On Tuesday, 3 of our Seniors traveled to their last Scholars Bowl meets at St. James. Although the team finished 2-3 on the night as well, the 3 losses were all within 1 question. The team played amazingly close matches all night against much bigger opponents. Jr. Logan Cundiff had 10 points, Sr. Dalton Shurm earned 20 points, Sr. Liz Mueting had 50 points, Jr. Georgia Martin walked away with 80 points, and Sr. Captain Natalie Karten earned 100 points.
The squad will travel to Fort Scott next Thursday for Regional competition.

On Friday night, the Cardinals traveled to Ottawa to take on the Cyclones on their Winter Royalty night. The game was a close contest throughout with the Cyclones taking a one-point lead at halftime and the score was tied after three quarters. The Cardinals made some plays in the 4th quarter and were able to come away with a 46-42 victory. Conor Dunback had a great game scoring 8 points, grabbing 11 huge boards, and also dishing out 4 assists. Micah Barron (12) was huge inside, scoring 13 points. Cole Parker knocked in some shots and ended the night with 14 points. Sullivan scored 9 and had 5 rebounds and Hammerschmidt continues to help on the boards from the point guard position, grabbing 3.

Highland Park
JV boys traveled to Topeka to take on a very tough and athletic Highland Park team. Highland Park was a really good team with multiple players who played in the JV and varsity games. Highland Park presses the entire game and they try to speed you up. I thought our boys handled the pressure really well for the most part, but eventually, you wear down and that pressure gets to you. Our JV boys hung tough in the first half. We ended up getting some really good looks but were unable to knock shots down. Highland park turned it up in the second half. The final score was Eudora 23 Highland Park 57. Sophomore Nick Younkin led the team in scoring with 9 points.
Ottawa
Friday Eudora would take on Ottawa, a team that we are all too familiar with and have had some good JV battles in the past. This game would be no different. Ottawa jumped out to an early 11-2 lead by knocking down some outside shots. We were also making it easy for them by turning the ball over too much early on. We battled back by sophomore Connor Watson attacking the basket, he finished the first half with 9 points. We also were able to get down and guard and grab rebounds. Eudora trailed Ottawa by three at the half.
Coming out in the second half our JV boys got after it defensively and everyone rebounded the basketball. As a team, we ended the game with 35 rebounds and 6 steals. Offensively we moved the ball well and kept attacking the basket. Again, Connor Watson was in attack mode getting to the basket. Watson finished the game with 23 points, he also knocked in 8 of 10 free throws, which was big at the end of the game. Sophomore Caden Stedry also had 3 huge baskets in the second half while also grabbing 10 rebounds in the game. Final score Eudora 42, Ottawa 38. I thought this was our best game from start to finish. When we were down early we did not panic, we kept fighting and found a way to get back in it. It was a good win and a fun game to be a part of. JV boys have Wamego Friday and turn around to play Ottawa again next Tuesday, it should be a fun couple of games.
9th Boys Basketball- Coach Steffen
On Friday Eudora traveled to Ottawa. Again, Eudora started strong trailing by 2 after the 1st quarter. Ottawa would get on a little run and take an 8-point lead at the half. Eudora would continue to play well on both ends and cut the lead to 4 points. A few missed shots by the Cardinals and lay-ups for Ottawa gave them a 48-38 win. Eudora was led in scoring by Lincoln Votaw with 12 points, Cage Crabill with 10 points, and George Hagan with 7 points.
Varsity Girls Basketball- Coach Parker
Last Friday, we had a conference road game at Ottawa. I really liked the continued improvement we made as we played much more freely. The tough part of the game was that we did well enough to win, and held the lead a majority of the game, but it, again, was the turnovers that cost us in the 46-42 loss. Overall, we had pretty balanced scoring with Yoder leading the way with 10. She was followed by Orr (9), Schreiner (8), and Long (7). Erpelding had another solid night in distributing the ball with 6 assists. Seniors Lucy Giffin, Blythe Fewins, and sophomore Hanna Keltner came off the bench to provide meaningful minutes. We did show good progress in this game. If we can begin to eliminate turnovers, we will make even more progress.
JV Girls BB- Coach Schreiner
The JV girls basketball team had another comeback win Tuesday night beating Highland Park 42-35. The girls were outscored 29-13 in the first half and struggled with the Scots full-court pressure. In the second half the girls cleaned up the turnovers and began to attack the basket and got some shots to start falling. They outscored their opponent 29-6 in the second half. The leading scorer was Blythe Fewins (junior) with 12 and Ally Rietcheck (sophomore) led all rebounding with 5.
The JV girls returned to action Friday night on the road against Ottawa. The girls struggled to score throughout the game and came up short at the end losing 19-25. Ally Rietcheck (sophomore) led all scoring and rebounding with 7 points and 8 rebounds. The JV girls are now 9-4 on the season.
9th Girls Basketball- Coach Stueve
The Freshman girls traveled to Topeka last week to take on Highland Park. Halle Hammes started the game off with a quick 3 mid-range buckets to give the Cardinals a great lead over Highland Park. She continued to be on fire throughout the night with 10 points, all from mid-range jumpers. Despite a few turnovers in the second half, the Cardinals were able to compete hard and hold on to the lead. Addie Williams played great pressure defense against their point guard which affected their offense and allowed the 9th graders to pick up steals and push the ball quickly for fast buckets. Final 31-22.
Ottawa
In the Friday night matchup between the Cardinals and the Cyclones, the 9th-grade girls were able to play a fast paced and aggressive game. Breaking the Cyclones' press easily and slowing down their offense with great zone defense, the girls were able to pull ahead early and keep a lead over Ottawa. Bailey Hammerschmidt had a standout night with multiple steals leading to fast break buckets and assists. Bailey had 11 points for the night with Avery Warren adding 12 for the Cardinals. All 7 freshmen were able to contribute offensively and all had points on the board. The Cardinals finished strong with a final score of 43-25. This puts the freshman girls record at 9-4 on the season with only a few weeks remaining.
