Carbon Footprint
By: Anjalique Raghunauth and Jasraj Gill
What is it?
Carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide and methane through human activities. This can pertain to a certain group or person.
Why does it Matter?
Greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and methane) contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming
Increasing the carbon quantity in the atmosphere makes it more insulated and harder for sunlight and heat escape, warming up the earth
Effects of Having a Large Carbon Footprint
Famine
Increasing sea levels will lead to an increase in floods and droughts, causing erosion and poverty.
Destruction of Ecosystems
The warming of earth will result in the melting of glaciers and destruction of numerous ecosystems. Many ecosystems will be harmed by natural disasters leading to the extinction of a variety of species.
Natural Disasters
Floods, droughts, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, and other natural disasters will all occur more often due to the warming of our planet.
What You Can do to Help
Change method of transportation to busing, cycling etc.
Driving a more efficient car
Insulating homes
Installing solar panels
- Recycling (manufacturing new items uses electricity)
