Speak-up Survey
In December, 6th grade language arts classes took the national "speak-up" survey by Project Tomorrow. This survey gathers information on students' technology use, both at home and at school, and gives technology leaders on the local, state, and national level valuable information that will help them plan for the future. There are educator and parent surveys too, so please take the survey if you haven't already: https://speakup.tomorrow.org/. The deadline is January 19th. Fifth grade students will take the survey during their library visits in early January.
WIS Spelling Bee
The library hosted the WIS Spelling Bee, sponsored by Mrs. Dewberry, on Tuesday, December 12th. After several rounds of intense competition, Brody Lopez was named the winner and Gearran Rigdon the alternate. Congratulations to all who participated!
Book Review - Restart by Gordon Korman
This title was featured at our Scholastic Book Fair and donated to us by former WIS librarian, Mrs. Frankie Smith. I'll admit that this is the first Gordon Korman book I've read, but it won't be my last! Korman has a way of getting in the heads of his adolescent characters and giving them an authentic voice. In Restart, eighth grader Chase Ambrose wakes up in a hospital with a group of strangers around his bed. He has no idea who he is or why he's there. As the story unfolds, we learn that Chase has fallen off a roof and bumped his head and has a bad case of amnesia. Chase soon learns that he is pretty much known as the school bully, and as his memory begins to return, he has a chance to start over and make amends for his past. Korman tells the story through the voices of several different characters in the book, including the ones who have been hurt by Chase. I would highly recommend this title, especially for those who want to explore the issue of bullying and all its ramifications.
