PETS AT SCHOOL
Student and Staff Pets are only allowed at school with prior approval of the administrator. All pets must be caged when brought to school and the parent must remain in attendance with the pet. Poisonous animals or reptiles are not to be brought to school. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact administration.
Student safety and security is a priority at LVCS. Thank you to the many Dragon families that have sent positive feedback regarding our new gate procedures at the top driveway. Please remember to stop completely at the stop signs and drive less than 20mph through our valet loop.
All visitors MUST register with the front office immediately upon entering any school building or grounds when during regular school hours. When registering, the visitor may be required to provide his/her name, address, occupation, age (if under 21), his/her purpose for entering school grounds, and photo identification. Please do not enter the campus without siging in. All volunteers MUSTwear their badge. If you have forgotten your badge, please let Mrs. Calkins know and she will print you a temporary badge.
Any individual coming on to campus for the sole purpose of observing an assembly, performance or speech or to participate in large scale school events, including, but not limited to, Back to School Night, Open House, PTO or CCEF sponsored events, are not required to sign in at the office nor are they required to obtain a visitor badge. However, all such visitors must immediately leave the campus upon the conclusion of the event. Any visitor who wishes to remain on campus after the conclusion of the event MUST immediately sign in at the office, state their business on campus and be issued a badge by office staff. Identification badges must be visible at all times.
All school staff and Registered Volunteers have completed thorough background checks have been issued photo identification badges for ease of recognition. All campus visitors (non-volunteer parents, grandparents, guest speakers, contractual workers, vendors, etc.) are required to first go to the school office and produce a photo identification that is run through the V-Soft security system. Once office staff obtains clearance, the individual is issued a temporary photo ID badge that must be worn and visible at all times.
As an added safety precaution, LVCS has purchased Raptor Technologies V-Soft security system which enables LVCS to screen all campus visitors through all national sex offender databases and will alert office staff if one of those individuals tries to obtain clearance to access campus. It also allows LVCS to set parameters to immediately identify “persons of concern,” such as those involved in restraining orders, custody disputes, threats, etc., to prevent their access to campus. This system is also used for tracking visitors, volunteers, staff, and students, so that in the event of an emergency we can account for who is on campus at any given time.

IMPORTANT: Professionalism & Boundaries
Failure to understand professional boundaries can lead almost any staff member to make serious mistakes - career threatening ones - in the management of staff-student relationships.
All staff are responsible for recognizing in themselves whether they are "at risk" of crossing boundaries and, if they are, of addressing the issue. This makes the issue an important and dangerous one for teachers.
All staff has a responsibility to address this issue when they witness a colleague who may be crossing boundaries. They must report their concern to an administrator.
In general, activities which take a staff member beyond the expectations of TVLC could easily qualify as boundary violations. These include:
- "Friending" students on personal social media pages (Best practices suggest a 3- 5 year buffer after they promote from our school)
- "Texting" or "IMing" students from your personal phone.
- becoming too personally involved with students - friend, confident, surrogate parent;
- seeing students in private or non-school settings;
- writing or exchanging personal (non-academic) notes, letters or emails;
- serving as a confidant with regard to a student's decision about his/her personal issues;
- giving gifts or money to students;
- inviting students to one's home;
- having students stay overnight in one's home;
- driving individual students to or from school;
- giving one student undue attention;
- being alone with a student with the exception of an emergency situation; NEVER BE IN A ROOM ALONE WITH A STUDENT WITH THE DOORS CLOSED OR BLINDS CLOSED!
- sharing your personal problems with students;
- sharing personal information about a student with a third party; and
- initiating physical contact (Fist bumps and high fives are appropriate and safe)

At the next GLL we will discuss the option of staff members having access to a cloud based phone number that will allow teacher protection.

ARE YOUR EMERGENCY PROCEDURES INCLUDING EPI PEN DIRECTIONS, YARD DUTY & OTHER MEDICAL DIRECTIONS IN YOUR SUB PLANS? If not, please do not delay – do this immediately.
CLASSROOM EMERGENCY KITS: You should have a clip board with multiple copies of your roster for all of your classes and a pen/pencil. You should also have a large cylinder in your room that has emergency provisions, first aid and a bright colored vest. PLEASE MOVE THESE LARGE EMERGENCY KITS NEXT TO YOUR DOOR. In the case of an emergency, they need to be easily accessible.
Fire/Evacuation Drills: Please put multiple copies of your class roster and a pen in your emergency kit. In the event of a drill or emergency, please evacuate your class. PUT YOUR BRIGHT COLORED VEST ON WHILE EXITING (it is located inside your emergency kit) Students should evacuate silently LEAVING DOORS UNLOCKED and line up (see map).YOU DO NOT NEED TO CARRY YOUR LARGE EMERGENCY CYLINDER OUT DURING A DRILL! YOU DO NEED TO TAKE THE VEST OUT AND WEAR IT.
Teacher should then take attendance, Teacher will then hold up:
Fist: ALL HERE (if a child was marked absent that morning, and you have the other 19, you still hold up a fist)
1 Finger: A child is missing because they went to the restroom or speech etc.
2 Fingers: A child is missing and you do not know where they are.
Earthquake Drills: Lights off, blinds closed, doors closed, students under desk in kneeling position heads down. Hands over neck, face down. Teachers either under their desk or in doorway. Only evacuate if directed to by main office.
SHELTER IN PLACE: If inside:
1. Keep students in classrooms pending further instructions.
2. Secure and lock all doors
3. Close all windows and close shades
4. Account for all students – call the office if you have children from other classrooms in your room.
5. Do not allow anyone to leave the secure room until ALL CLEAR message is received.
6. Students should take their seats and lessons can continue.
7. Passing periods and lunch should be disregarded until SHELTER IN PLACE has concluded.

SHELTER IN PLACE DURING MORNING DROP OFF : The procedures will be the same as above AND WE WILL:
1. WE WILL LOCK THE TOP VALET GATE.
2. WE WILL DIRECT ALL CARS CURRENTLY IN THE VALET LANE TO CONTINUE DRIVING OFF CAMPUS AND WAIT FOR A NTI MESSAGE COMMUNICATING THE ALL CLEAR
