Information Science and Technology (IS&T) High School Day is a program at Colorado State University (CSU) that brings high school students to campus each fall to provide an introduction to CSU and IS&T career paths. Each of the eight colleges and the library at CSU sponsor a contest, which have included everything from producing a television broadcast to building robots. The library sponsors the “Information Science: Mastering Google and Beyond” contest. This contest has evolved since its inception in 2004, and by fall of 2011 involved gaming elements, active learning exercises, and multimedia tools. A description of the elements of the contest and the lessons learned while developing this unique teaching opportunity for academic librarians will be shared.
