We had a Wonderful First Week!

We had a great week with our Bison! They enjoyed learning about their teacher, their classmates and our school. We will continue to focus on our routines and procedures as we dive into classwork this week. Ask your student to share these with you this week!

Remember that on Monday, students will be walking themselves to class. We'll have staff members in the hallway to be sure they know the way.

Our Five Rules!

We use "5 Rules" from Whole Brain Teaching. Your child should be able to model this for you. Having consistency throughout our building with these rules, helps our students understand expectations and creates a happy place for all to learn.

Here are the 5 Rules--- + the "Diamond Rule!" Ask your child to recite them for you and we appreciate you reinforcing them with us.

Rule #1--Follow Directions Quickly

Rule #2--Raise your Hand for Permission to Speak

Rule #3--Raise your Hand for Permission to Leave Your Seat

Rule #4--Make Smart Choices

Rule #5--Keep Your Learning Environment Happy

Diamond Rule--Keep Your Eye on the Target

School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an approach to teaching and supporting positive behaviors and meeting the needs of ALL students. This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.

The foundation of PBIS at Bethke Elementary is BISON:

· Be Respectful

· Include Integrity

· Stay Safe

· Own Your Choices

· Never Give Up

In addition to our behavior expectations, PBIS has four other components: 1) a behavior matrix which explains behavior expectations in each school setting; 2) direct teaching of the expectations; 3) PBIS recognition cards (Bison Bucks); and 4) Reflection sheets to record and address inappropriate behaviors.

Bison Bucks

Students who are following school expectations in the various locations of the building can earn Bison Bucks.

· Bucks are given by staff to students to acknowledge their positive behavior.

· Once received, the students save their bucks until they earn enough to redeem for a reward of their choice from the incentive chart for their grade level.

· Visit our website to view the incentive charts:

Consequences for Inappropriate Behavior

At times, children may not make the best behavior choices and need redirection. To address unexpected behavior, a campus wide continuum of consequences will be implemented.

1. General reminder/verbal warning will be given about expected behavior.

2. A brief private student-teacher conference will occur to discuss behavior expectations.

3. Student will be asked to move to the reflection area in the classroom to complete a behavior reflection sheet, which we will be sent home for parent signature. The student returns to normal seat after completed.

4. Teacher will make a parent phone call.

5. An office referral will be sent to the assistant principal.

** Certain actions warrant immediate

administrative involvement such as fighting, possession of contraband or weapons, harassment and threats

Track your child's Bus!

The Katy ISD Transportation Department is exited to communicate that all 2019 – 2020 route buses will be equipped with GPS systems. With the new GPS systems, parents, campuses and Transportation personnel will be able to track buses in real-time through a downloadable application from Edulog. Parents and patrons having children riding buses in Katy ISD, the link below contains information on how to download the application. We look forward to working with our parents and campuses as we continue to find new ways to improve safety, efficiency, and responsiveness within the Transportation Department.

Your school’s GPS district code to use in the application is : 52697930

Meet Mrs. Lowery, Your Principal

I am so honored to be the Principal at Bethke Elementary! I moved to Katy at the age of 10 and attended Hutsell, Katy JH and graduated from Katy HS. Many of the campuses in our district are named for my former teachers, so I know what a legacy our schools are for our community! When I graduated, I attended Texas Tech University where I met my husband of 22 years, Warren. He works for our family commercial landscape construction business with my parents and brothers. We are proud parents of our 19 year old twins, Blake and Brooke. Brooke is attending Texas Tech University, and Blake is serving in the United States Army. We are so very proud of both of them. This will be my 24th year in education. I taught 4th grade for 11 years at a couple of Katy schools, including Katy Elementary. In 2006, I became the assistant principal at Hutsell and the principal at Rhoads Elementary in 2011. Our school is focused on collaboration of teachers, students and our community. We value our students' interest and strive to meet their needs while also encouraging them to make a positive impact on their community.

I welcome your input and support as we all work to make Bethke the most amazing school in Katy ISD!
