Greetings Crockett Families,

The 2018-2019 was one to remember! In addition to celebrating our 50th Anniversary Year, Crockett Early College High School also increased graduation rates, EOC STAAR scores, and attendance; we created more inclusive learning environments for our students; we celebrated numerous awards across many of our programs; our seniors were awarded 4.5 MILLION dollars in scholarships; and we embodied our new Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Collective Commitments.

Crockett staff members are already busy at work planning for next school year hiring quality staff members, creating rigorous curriculum, and ensuring we continue to tackle equality in our school.We are also pleased to announce that we have almost 100 incoming freshmen that will be added to our Early College High School family and will start taking ACC classes starting this fall!!

As we wrap up one school year and we prepare for the next, I would like to, again, wish our graduates farewell and best of luck on their new journey and welcome our newest cohort of students, the Crockett Class of 2023!

At graduation I left our seniors with a blessing, I would like to offer this same blessing to you and your families this summer.

May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being, may you walk gently through the world and know it’s beauty all the days of your life.

Healthy Summer Meals for Kids

Austin ISD will be providing FREE breakfast and lunch for children and teens ages 18 and younger at over 50 schools this summer.

FREE Summer Meal Program Details:

  • Meals are FREE to children and teens ages 18 and younger who come to a summer meals site.
  • No application or identification is needed. Children and teens can simply show up.
  • The summer food program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  • Food served is healthy and exceeds federal nutrition guidelines.
  • Summer menus can be viewed on

Dear Parent or Guardian:

We are excited to announce Crockett Early College High School will be one of 82 AISD campuses offering FREE breakfast and lunch to all students for the 2019-20 school year. To help improve healthy food access, we are participating in Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a program which offers school meals to all students at no cost.

What does this mean for students?

  • All students will have access to a free, healthy breakfast and lunch each day.

    • Second meals and a la carte items must be purchased.

  • Reduces stigma that may be associated with school meals.

What this means for parents and guardians?

  • Time and money saved because meals are provided at school free of charge.

  • You will no longer be required to submit a meal benefit application for students at this campus.

    • An income verification form is required if your household is not directly certified by receiving SNAP or TANF benefits.

    • If you have children that are attending another Austin ISD campus that is not participating in CEP, a meal benefits application will still be required to receive free or reduced price meals at that location.

  • CEP removes any financial burden of ensuring your child is properly nourished, and eliminates worries about student meal account balances.

How parents and guardians can help:

  • Apply today to receive benefits for your family outside the school day and help our school increase eligibility for certain types of programs and funding.

  • You must submit an income verification form if your household is currently not receiving free meal benefits through programs like SNAP or TANF. This information is needed to help maintain our campus demographic information used for various funding sources and programs. Income verification forms will either be submitted during the online enrollment process, if not, then electronically on the Parent Cloud or a paper form will be provided to you.

Upon the completion of the 2018-19 school year, families may request a refund of any remaining funds on student meal accounts through the Austin ISD Nutrition & Food Services Department. If a refund is not requested, these funds will remain in the account and be available in the event your student selects a second meal or any a la carte items.

We encourage families to take advantage of these free, healthy meals by making the choice to have their children eat school breakfast and lunch. If every student not currently eating school lunch dined with us just a few days each week, it could help bring better foods, like grass fed beef, organic produce or organic milk, to all students in Austin.

AP English IV Literature and Composition

AP English IV Literature and Composition

Course Description

The AP English Literature and Composition course aligns to an introductory college-level literary analysis course. The course engages students in the close reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature to deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure. As they read, students consider a work’s structure, style, and themes, as well as its use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. Writing assignments include expository, analytical, and argumentative essay.

Course Texts

This year, in addition to a variety of shorter pieces, students will be expected to read the following texts in their entirety:

● The Tempest by William Shakespeare

● Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton

● A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen

● The Inferno by Dante Alighieri

● Hamlet by William Shakespeare

*Students are encouraged to buy a personal copy of each of these texts in order to read outside of class and to complete assignments.


Every day, students are expected to come prepared with ALL of the following:

● Spiral or composition notebook

● Binder or folder

● Independent reading book

● Chromebook

● Current class text


This year, our class is in need of some supplies we utilize all year long. We are asking that each student please bring at least one of the following:

● Markers

● Colored pencils

● Scissors

● #2 pencils

● Tissues

Grading Policy

A few critical changes have been made to our grading policy that every student needs to be aware of. This year, deadlines and due dates will be enforced. In order to have the opportunity to resubmit an assignment, it MUST be turned in by the due date. Assignments turned in AFTER the due date will not be accepted. Our gradebook will consist of:

Power Standard Grades - 80% (essays, projects, presentations, etc)

Daily Grades - 10%

Organization - 10% (notebooks, folders/binders, etc).

Summer Reading for AP English IV

For this course, you are required to read at least one of the books on the recommended AP reading list found on this website:

Upon completion of the book, you will select one of the 3 project options listed below:

Option 1: Research essay For this project, the student will either research the historical context, the author, or a social issue the text addresses. In a well-organized, five paragraph essay, explain how the information you gathered relates directly to the text you read. Include a bibliography with a minimum of three sources.

Option 2: Graphic Depiction For this project, the student will select a pivotal scene from the text and create a graphic novel page that illustrates key elements of the text, including character, conflict, and theme. Each frame should include specific dialogue, narration, inner thinking, and images from the scene.

Option 3: Mixtape

For this project, the student will select songs that relate to each character, the conflicts, and theme. Create a cd booklet with one page for each song choice. Each page should include: title, artist, specific lyrics that relate to characters, conflicts, or themes, and an analysis of that connection.

This project must be completed outside of class and turned in by Friday, September 14, 2018.

Crockett Wins Big at Generation Citizen's Civics Day

A huge congratulations to Maggie Reyes-Reyna, Elija Thatcher, Jude Zawaideh, Gabe Rocha, and Noah Messer who presented at Generation Citizen's Civics Day and won the FIRST OVERALL CHANGE MAKER award! These students and everyone else in 1st Period Ethnic Studies worked hard over the past few months to research a systemic problem, talk to stakeholders, and come up with real solutions. This week they presented their ideas to increase student voice in policy making before panels of elected officials, lawyers, business owners, and other community leaders and won the top distinction among all Austin area schools.

Become a Host Family

Would you be interested in becoming a host family for a Russian exchange student arriving in August for the 2019-2020 school year?

The student is 15 years old and likes camping, cycling, Thai boxing, chess, editing video, pictures and sound. He volunteers working with the blind and visually impaired.. All students have full insurance and spending money for personal expenses. The host family has to be kind and loving (treats student like their own child) provide abed and meals. This is an awesome opportunity to learn about a new culture while teaching them about
