Mrs. Loppnow's News & Notes
Week of March 19, 2018
A Note from Mrs. Loppnow:
Hello Parents!
What a fun week! From dress-up days to classroom celebrations, this was a week for the memory books! It was a great honor to welcome you into our classroom for our Animal Menagerie. The students were SO proud to show off their work! I don't think I have ever seen such HUGE smiles when parents have walked into my room. Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit with us. I appreciate your flexibility and willingness to make schedule changes and sneak away to help us celebrate.
The students have definitely earned some time to rest and relax during Spring Break. It sounds like you have some fun trips planned! (I may even see the Applebee family at South Padre Beach!) I hope you take advantage of your time together and enjoy every moment!
Enjoy your week!

Don't forget to send in your pictures for our weekly shout-out! Sports, clubs, special activities...we love to see what you are doing!
The CARNIVAL is APPROACHING!
In addition, the PTO needs your donations of King size candy bars and 1 or 2 liter bottles of pop for the carnival pop toss and candy bar walk. These events are a huge hit with our kiddos at the carnival so your donations are essential to make it happen! Drop off your donations to the main office. We would like to have as many of these supplies as possible donated before spring break so we can ensure we will be able to run the games at the carnival on May 4!
A Peek into this week and next!
Writer's Workshop: With all of our hard work wrapped up into a pretty package, we took the end of this week to celebrate and create some "spring art" to decorate our classroom. I can't wait to come back after spring break to beautiful tulips hanging around the room and pod. I'm hoping the REAL ones will be blooming, too!
After Spring Break, we will shift our focus to POETRY! Students will learn about the parts of a poem with a focus on imagery and descriptive words. Students will be writing their own poetry to publish and share.
Content: It's that time of year when we do "double doses" of math to hit all of our standards! We will be spending time with MONEY and will focus on making change with the fewest possible coins. Try practicing at home with your child!
Reader's Workshop: We will continue our work with paired texts focusing on comparing and contrasting the texts and finding the message of both. This can sometimes be a tough skill when students are used to reading only one passage at a time! We all know, however, that reading multiple texts and points of view, help us deepen our understanding around a topic. Continue to encourage daily reading at home and don't be afraid to pull out newspapers and magazines to look for current topics to explore!
