Elementary Returning to In Person
Dear KSD Elementary Families,
I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU so much on behalf of your students. Last week was the first time we welcomed classrooms of students since March. 213 days! The elbow and foot bumps, welcoming signs outside the school, and within the classroom conveyed the warmth and caring attitude for which both Kirkwood teachers are staff members are known. It was impressive to witness.
I also want to recognize our teachers and staff members serving our students online through the Kirkwood at-Home program. These teachers and staff members are committed to ensuring our students are engaged in learning the Kirkwood curriculum and connected to their classmates and school.
This continues to be a historic time in public education. When we give our best, our students get the best. Thank you again for everything.

Report Cards
Dear KSD Elementary Families,
This year has obviously been like none other, as we’ve started our year online and are now supporting students both online and in classrooms. Given the circumstances, we have decided to use a mastery-based report to provide families with feedback about K-5 student learning. This replaces the 1-2-3-4 rubric used previously for report cards. We will use this process for the entire school year, regardless of the instructional model used at any given time.
Our report card for this year will include two parts:
A report noting student performance on grade level priority standards for math, English/language arts, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning. These priority standards reflect essential learning that has endurance over time and/or can be leveraged to enhance learning in the future. Our priority standards reflect the most essential skills and understandings we believe all Kirkwood students should master by the end of a grade level. Special area teachers will provide feedback at the end of quarters two and four.
Narrative teacher comments that provide additional information about student learning and feedback specific to performance in these areas. Narrative comments often provide parents with the most valuable insights specific to your child, in support of reports that note progress toward identified standards.
Students may receive one of the following marks for each priority standard that has been taught.
Met - Skills noted in this standard were observed independently during the first quarter, either via student work or online conferences.
Developing - Skills noted in this standard were not yet mastered independently, either via student work or online conferences.
Not Observed - There has not yet been ample opportunity to observe use of skills noted in this standard. Not Observed does not necessarily mean a student has not mastered a skill, only that evidence of mastery was not collected.
Our goal is for all students to master skills noted in our priority standards by the end of the school year. Because these are year-long expectations, many standards were not taught during the first quarter. Any standard that has not yet been taught will be left blank at this time.
Additional information can be found on our KSD website, including sample report cards, information about priority standards, and lists of standards that were likely addressed through first quarter instruction. We encourage families to review these resources at kirkwoodschools.org/prioritystandards.
Report cards will be available to our K-5 parents via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal, beginning October 30. Once you are logged into Infinite Campus, click on the menu bars (top left), then Documents, then the report you want to review.
Please complete this form if you need to create an Infinite Campus parent account or recover your username/password for an existing account. For other questions or issues with Infinite Campus please contact icportal@kirkwoodschools.org.
Thank you for your continued support of Kirkwood Kids and the Kirkwood School District.
Grab and Go
Meals are free to ALL children whether they choose to learn in person or virtually for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. In addition, meals are available at no cost to all children in the community from ages 1-18. Children do not need to be enrolled in the Kirkwood School District to pick up free meals.
Families who pick up meals from Kirkwood High School can choose a daily hot meal or a bulk meal bag (to reduce the amount of trips). A vegetarian option is offered daily upon request. Please call to let us know if you would like to pick up a bag with an allergy accommodation. Feel free to call Rachel Scheffing at 314-213-6100 ext.1351 with questions about free meals or assistance in meal delivery.
Technology Insurance Extension
Families have the option of purchasing insurance for their childrens’ district issued technology each year. Parents and guardians can sign up for insurance on MySchoolBucks application, KSD's online payment system. To set up a MySchoolBucks account, please visit our website. Please purchase insurance by October 30.
