The Invasion of Iraq
By: Dominic Rondinella
Summary
It lasted from March 20 - May 1 2003. The invasion phase consisted primarily of a conventionally fought war which concluded with the capture of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad by American forces. According to U.S. President George W. Bush the main focus on the mission was to "disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, and to end Saddam Hussein's support for Terrorism and to free the Iraqi people."
Media
On screen during every live of Fox News coverage of the war was an waving flag animation in the upper left corner and the headline "Operation Iraqi Freedom" along the bottom. They were mainly pro-war and agreed with President Bush's decision.
A NBC and National Geographic correspondent was fired for giving an interview with Iraqi officials about how the "first war plan had failed"
Bias
The main bias was selection of sources because the multiple news stations who were conservative put an American flag to show pro-war and others were their reporters getting fired for "knowing too much" or being "anti-war"
Criticism
It's easily cultural because after 9-11 America didn't know how to respond until 2003 and President Bush wanted to end Saddam Hussein and his acts. The drawback was that a lot of American lives were lost and there were no weapons of mass destruction found so that's why to this day the Invasion of Iraq is still controversial.
