Les & Evelyn Riley Memorial Scholarship -- APPLY NOW!

The Les and Evelyn Riley Memorial Scholarship provides one scholarship annually to a graduating Crosby Scholar senior with an excellent scholastic record and financial need. This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Les Riley, a long-time volunteer with the Crosby Golf Tournament. The scholarship also honors his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Weathers Riley.


Eligibility


To be considered for this award, applicant must:


  • Must demonstrate academic achievement by holding a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Must plan to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university
  • Must complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA -- Cost of Attendance (COA) is the primary consideration when determining need; eligibility is not restricted by family income level.


Value


A $1,200 non-renewable award


Application Procedure


Students can begin applying on March 2, 2020 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby student portal by March 29, 2020.

The completed application includes:


  1. Online application form
  2. 2020-21 Student Aid Report (SAR) Upload a copy of your entire Student Aid Report. The SAR summarizes the data you and your parent(s) reported on the FAFSA.
  3. Essay explaining how a significant life experience has influenced him or her. Essay should not exceed 500 words.

Right Decisions / Right Now Scholarship -- APPLY NOW!

The Right Decisions Right Now Scholarship provides a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship to three graduating Crosby Scholar seniors whose sound decision-making skills are personified in their exemplary character, strength in leadership, and contributions to school and community. Through the healthy choices initiative in collaboration with the Reynolds American Foundation, the Right Decisions, Right Now: Be Tobacco Free educational program helps to empower students to make decisions that positively influence their lives and their health. The program equips students with life skills they can carry into adulthood.


**Right Decisions/Right Now Camp is a school-based youth tobacco prevention program with a focus on decision making skills created by Lifetime Learning Systems, Inc. and funded by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Each summer, the Crosby Scholars Program sponsors a four day summer camp to encourage students in grades six through nine to remain tobacco free for life. The summer camp features three days of workshops and one field trip to city agencies such as the Health and Police Departments. Students participate in an interactive experience that helps them to make good decisions. Participants completing all program requirements may be eligible to apply for special scholarships upon high school graduation and successful completion of the Senior Crosby Scholars Program.


Eligibility


  • To be considered for this award, applicants must:
  • have attended a complete week of the Right Decisions/Right Now camp**
  • must hold a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • must have received a direct email from Crosby Scholars confirming eligibility

Application Procedure


Students can begin applying on March 2, 2020 and must have completed an online application through their Crosby student portal by March 29, 2020.


The completed application includes:


  1. Online application form
  2. Essay explaining how your decision making throughout high school was guided by principles learned at the Right Decisions Right Now camp. Essay should not exceed 500 words.
  3. Personal statement explaining why you have chosen to remain tobacco free.. Activities Resume – Current activities resume should be in chart form and should include the hours of participation or service for each activity. Include community service involvement, as well as any part-time employment. Use the Activities Resume in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal as a guide, if needed.
  4. Letter of Recommendation - Ask an adult (other than your parent or family member) to write a letter of recommendation for you.
  5. Letters may be emailed to: awilson@crosbyscholars.org or faxed to 336-725-1321

Jessica Hill Davis Memorial Scholarship -- Opens March 9

The Jessica Hill Davis Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Jessica Davis, a Crosby Scholar senior at Reagan High School who lost her life to cystic fibrosis shortly before she was due to graduate and to enroll at North Carolina State University. This scholarship, which was first awarded in 2012, provides scholarships annually to one graduating Crosby Scholar senior.


Eligibility


To be considered for this award, applicant must:

· demonstrate academic achievement by holding a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • enroll at a public or private 2- or 4-year institution in North Carolina
  • complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program
  • preference will be given to recipients of the Crosby Scholars Executive Directors Award (enrolled in Program since 6th grade without interruption)

$1,200 non-renewable


Application Procedure


Students can begin applying March 9, 2020 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby student portal by April 5, 2020.


The completed application packet includes:


  1. Online application form
  2. Essay -- In comparison to other high-school students, Jessica faced different routines, confronted different challenges, and developed unique perspectives as a result of the medical struggles involved with battling cystic fibrosis. Consider your own life/choices/conditions that are different from others and the manner in which you have faced and/or coped with them. Write a concise essay (should not exceed 500 words) on your response to the following prompt:


“I always felt different because…

Bigs for Success Scholarship -- Opens March 9

The Bigs for Success Scholarship will award up to three non-renewable $1,000 scholarships to graduating Crosby Scholar seniors who will enroll in a two- or four-year college or university; have a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.5 or higher; who completed their Bigs for Success match for the year; and who joined the Bigs for Success Program during their Junior year. The student will be able to clearly demonstrate in an essay how mentorship has made an impact on their lives.


Eligibility

To be considered for this award, applicants must:


  • must enroll in a two- or four-year college or university
  • have a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • must have joined the Bigs for Success Program during junior year
  • must have completed their Bigs for Success match for the year


Value


$1,000; non-renewable


Application Procedure


Students may begin applying on March 9, 2020 must submit a completed online application through their Crosby student portal by April 5, 2020.

The completed application includes:



  1. Online application form
  2. Activities resume – current activities should be in chart form and should highlight leadership roles. Use your resume in the Crosby portal as a guide.
  3. Demonstrate in an essay your experience within the Bigs for Success Program.

Judy McCann Ball Memorial Book Scholarship -- Opens March 16

The Judy McCann Ball Memorial Book Scholarship provides a $300 non-renewable book scholarship awarded to one graduating Crosby Scholar Senior. This scholarship is in memory of Judy McCann Ball, a beloved friend and ardent supporter of the Crosby Scholars Invitational Tournament. Judy was a lifelong lover and caregiver of animals, and whose memory is honored through volunteer service dedicated to animals in need.


Eligibility

To be considered for this award, applicant must:


  • Complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program
  • Faithfully participate in extracurricular activities, including volunteer service with an organization that benefits animals


Value


$300; non-renewable book scholarship


Application Procedure


Students may begin applying on March 16, 2020 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby Scholars Student Portal by April 12, 2020.

The completed application includes:


  • Online application form
  • Activities Resume -- Current activities resume should be in chart form and should include hours of participation for each volunteer service activity. Use the resume in your Crosby portal as a guide.
  • Essay - Please describe your volunteer efforts to benefit the lives of animals. Essays should not exceed 500 words.

Piedmont Opera and Hanesbrands are pleased to offer Crosby Scholars free tickets to our Student Night and Tuesday evening performances for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “The King & I”

Wednesday, March 18th at 7:30 PM Tuesday, March 24th at 7:30 PM (limited number available)

Accompanying sibling(s) are $5 on Wednesday and $11.60 on Tuesday.

Chaperones are $15 on Wednesday and $20.00 on Tuesday.

**A drawing will be held that week for a $250.00 scholarship awarded to a junior or senior Crosby Scholars student who attends a performance.


This scholarship must be applied toward the winner’s college education, and the recipient must graduate from the Crosby Scholars Program.
