Twice a week starting after break we will be highlighting our seniors during the morning announcements, who have been accepted to college, trade school or enlistment into the military. As well, we will also be highlighting them in the weekly newsletter.

Acceptances & Scholarship Copies
Tis the Season...Not the Holiday season, College Acceptance season. As the acceptances and scholarship offers start to roll in, make sure you are sending/bringing in copies to Ms. Long. You can bring the hard copies in and I can make a copy, you can forward me the email (glong@ccboe.com) or print out the email and bring to me.
Spring ASVAB Testing
On Tuesday, March 5th, from 8am-10:00 am, Lackey High School will conduct ASVAB testing for any interested Junior or Senior. There will be limited seating (50 students). The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) helps identify which careers you qualify for. It does NOT bind you in any way to joining the military. CCPS is also offering a test date in the Spring on April 27, 2024. There should be at least 30 days in-between testing sessions that you participate in. As a reminder, if a student is going to use their score for enlistment, the military will pull the most recent score. You can also visit the Media Center or the College & Career Center for study books.
Two great study websites are www.march2success.com and www.asvab-prep.com THIS TEST WILL BE AN ONLINE TEST. PLEASE BRING YOUR FULLY CHARGED LAPTOP FOR THE TEST.
In-School College Information Sessions
University of the District of Columbia
Are you interested in possibly attending the University of the District of Columbia and would like to hear more information about the school. A representative from the college will be in the Telepresence Room on Tuesday, January 30, during Charger Time B. FAFSA Information
According to Federal Student Aid's website they started the soft launch of the 2024-25 FAFSA form. During the soft launch, we will make the form available for periods of time over the coming days while we monitor site performance and respond to any potential issues. We will also be initiating pauses to the site, during which time the form will not be available while we conduct site maintenance." If you have attempted to complete your FAFSA and received a "closed for maintenance" message, this is why.

Charles County Scholarship Fund Is Open
The Charles County Scholarship Fund Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to Charles County high school seniors. The following county groups – the Charles County Commissioners, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS), the College of Southern Maryland and the Charles County Chamber of Commerce – are always represented on the Scholarship Fund Board. All other members of the Board are selected from the community at large.
How To Apply
Please have the following documents ready to UPLOAD when you apply. The application will close at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024.
- Academic Letter of Recommendation – The letter of recommendation must be from a teacher, school counselor or other school administrator.
- Personal Letter of Recommendation – Must be from someone who knows you well. (Not a parent or other family member)
- Personal Statement Essay – Your essay is a statement regarding your academic and career objectives, goals, and aspirations. Your student statement is very important, and the Scholarship Committee relies heavily on this statement. Please include the following: What are your educational and career goals? Why have you chosen these goals? How do you envision making a contribution to your community after you complete your education? What impact on your community do you hope to achieve once you graduate from college?
- Resume – The resume must include: 1. Work Experience 2. Extracurricular activities 3. Community Service activities during high school 4. Leadership positions and 5. School and Community honors and awards.
- If you want to be considered for need-based scholarships, you will need to provide a copy of your 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Student Aid Report (SAR). (Confirmation page will be available to you once you complete the FAFSA). All information supplied will be treated as confidential.
FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) FORM - All scholarship applications must be completed and submitted by 11:59 p.m. on March 1, 2024.
- Late applications will not be accepted.
- Seniors should see their school counselor or their school’s College and Career Advisor if they have any questions/concerns.
- Please ensure you have all required documents ready to upload to the application prior to starting to complete the form.

AFA Teens for Alzheimer's Awareness College Scholarship Essay Contest
Eligible: A student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must also enter a four-year accredited college or university within 12 months of the application deadline.
Criteria: This scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for college-bound students to give thoughtful consideration to the impact Alzheimer’s disease has had on their own lives and others in their family and community in the form of 1,500 word max essay or 4 min video.
