The Manning Weekly Update
December 17, 2021
Manning Community,
I cannot believe we are already on the cusp of a New Year! I just know 2022 is going to be a better year, a different year; a year where we will count our blessings and remember how fortunate we are; a year where we will set aside differences and remember that we are on this planet to spread kindness, cheer, and goodwill.
2022 is going to be a great year!
As I reflect on 2021, it is amazing to see how resilient our kids are, how courageous they have become, and how important it is that we let them know this every single day. As one more year passes, I realize that we cannot be defined by our circumstances; rather, we need to breakout of our doldrums and redefine what is possible.
I have been able to be part of an amazing community for the past year and a half, and for that, I am grateful. To see our musical theater students rock the stage and truly bring an incredible performance last weekend, followed by our choir and instrumental music program that put on two great performances last night, I feel that I have the best job in Jeffco. Seriously, we have an amazing community and I am honored to be your principal. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your amazing children with us!
I also want to thank our incredible community and PTA for your generosity. The Manning staff was treated to breakfast this morning, supported and set up by our PTA, and funded by our families. Thank you! This means more than you know. We have also been told that lunch will be provided on Monday afternoon and there are other teacher appreciation efforts underway for the remainder of this year and into next year. Please know that we are so grateful!
In addition, I would like to encourage all of you to take a few minutes to fill out the Family School Partnership Survey (link below). We can only be the best if we are hearing what I call "glows and grows." It is important for all of you to take this survey so we know what we are doing well and identify areas for growth. I truly believe that honest feedback is essential to the growth of a community and organization. So, please, take a few minutes to support this survey.

Finally, I would like to clarify our modified contact day next Tuesday, December 21st.
All schools throughout the district use modified contact days to support student learning and academic functions within the building. High schools use these days at the end of each semester for final make-ups for credit bearing courses, elementary schools use these days for testing, and middle schools use these days to work with specific students who need additional academic support, including finishing finals, quiz make-ups, and/or completing any incomplete projects or labs. The reason for this incomplete work could be due to the student not finishing this work prior to end of school today or because they've been on a recent quarantine, or have been at home ill (non-Covid) and missed this past week or two of school
Here are the important points to know for our modified contact day:
1.) Invite only: You will hear from your student's teacher by end of business tomorrow if they need your child to attend on this day. We will be inviting students in anytime between 8:30-11:45 a.m.
2.) To be flexible with family schedules and transportation efforts, this support could be in person or over a Google meet with their teacher. When teachers reach out to you, please let them know the option that is best for your family.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. I hope that you get to spend time with loved ones, and be with those that you care about most. I hope that you enjoy every minute of this break!
Of course, if you have any questions, please email me at Christian.Ramaker@jeffco.k12.co.us or give me a call at (303) 982-0489.
Happy Holidays!

SEL Corner
As of this week all students at Manning received a SEL lesson on Healthy Relationships. Entering and maintaining a healthy relationship requires all 5 SEL Core Competencies: Self- Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making. Self-Awareness requires that we be able to identify our emotions, values, strengths, and biases. These can be used to assess the emotional health of a relationship. Self-Management enables us to maintain health within ourselves, so that we can be present in our relationships, and know what our own emotional state is and what to do about it. Social Awareness can help us consider another person’s perspective- an essential skill in healthy relationships. To summarize Relationship Skills; they are those skills that help us enter and maintain a healthy relationship- communication, collaboration and compromise, and many others. Finally, Responsible Decision-Making means that our choices align with our values and do not harm others. By making responsible decisions we will attract positive friends and build our own self confidence and personal growth.
