Literacy
In small groups we are continuing to learn our letter sounds and are now listening for the beginning sounds in words. This week during circle time we sorted pictures by "the first sound we hear on our lips".
Math
Guess what?! Mathematics isn’t just about numbers! We have started working on a new math learning target during our small group time- being able to assemble puzzles with at least 12 intersecting pieces! Puzzles present many benefits for young, growing minds. Not only do puzzles allow us to become more patient and effective problem solvers, but puzzles also support the development of spatial reasoning (an important math skill) and hand-eye coordination.
Social-Emotional Learning
- Look at their faces and bodies for clues
- Focus attention on what is happening
- Understanding how others feel helps your child get along with others and be friends.

Play a game with your child to practice using the two different ways to tell how someone feels. Play while looking at a picture book or a magazine. Say: We’re going to play How Do They Feel? We’ll look at the pictures in this book without reading the words. Then we’ll try to tell how the people in the pictures feel. Before starting, review the two different ways to tell how someone feels.
Sign-up for a conference with Mrs. Krahn! I can't wait to see all of you!
Valentine Exchange
On Thursday, February 13th (Afternoon class) and Friday, February 14th (Morning class) students will be exchanging Valentines!
Parents, to save on time, please have your child write his/her name near “from” and leave “to” blank. It will make passing out much easier. We have 22 students in each class. Please send Valentine cards for everyone.
Also, we are asking you and your child to create a Valentine mailbox. A shoebox with a removable lid would be perfect, but any flat-bottomed container approximately that size would be fine.
You are welcome to decorate the mailbox anyway you and your child wish with construction paper, wrapping paper, fabric, stickers, ribbons or other embellishments! Be creative! Please cut a 2” X 6” opening in the lid so that valentines can be dropped inside. If your child’s valentine box does not have a removable lid, be sure the opening is large enough for treats and trinkets. Don’t forget to put your name on it!
Please send Valentines and mailboxes to school by Monday, February 10th so we can start to pass the cards out!
Snow Clothes
Morning class- Thank you for sending your child to school already dressed in snow gear!
Afternoon class- Our schedule has changed! You longer need to send your child to school already dressed. We will be going outside at the end of the day instead. This schedule change ensures that we have the playground all to ourselves :)
Library Reminder
Every WEDNESDAY we visit the library and checkout one book to bring home and read with your family. Please return the book by the following TUESDAY.
Thanks!
